Where did the idea that Israel is an ally with the US because it is an adherant of Western ideology; that it is not a nation whose politics are dictated by religion. Whose being led around by the nose - surely not the US. Lest we all forget - this whole thing supposedly blew up because of two Israeli soldiers having been taken. Two soldiers have been used as the justification for totally invading a neighboring country but claiming - No Lebanon, we're not after you - we're just here to decimate Hezbollah - a radical religous organization that's admitted to wanting to destroy Israel. See, we're the good guys - just as our ally, the US. But don't read our papers or you might learn that in truth our ideology of religious violence is just as vitrous as yours - more so because we make no bones about condoning the murder of innocent children. Notice the words "issued a Jewish religious edict permitting the IOF troops to KILL". Is this not religion dictating national policy?

On the Innocent Slaughter of Children

The committee of Jewish rabbis in the West Bank settlements issued a Jewish religious edict permitting the IOF troops to kill women and children in Lebanon and Gaza Strip without reservations, according to the Hebrew Yedioth Ahronoth website.
The website quoted the rabbis as saying that the edict was based on the Torah teaching, adding "Any Israeli soldier showing mercy towards children in Lebanon and Palestine is implicitly merciless towards Israel's children". The edict was published at the backdrop of the current Israeli intensive war on Lebanon.

Yesha Rabbinical Council: During time of war, enemy has no innocents. The Yesha Rabbinical Council announced in response to an IDF attack in Kfar Qanna that "according to Jewish law, during a time of battle and war, there is no such term as 'innocents' of the enemy." All of the discussions on Christian morality are weakening the spirit of the army and the nation and are costing us in the blood of our soldiers and civilians," the statement said. (Efrat Weiss)

To paraphrase something that John Rosemond said regarding disciplining children: "Make the punishment so severe that they'll never want to do it again.".

The reason Israel has this particular problem (kidnapped soldiers) is that, in the past, they've negotiated with terrorists (not just Hezbollah, but others), and set a precedent that it's possible.

Their response is no less ridiculous than what any other country on earth would do, except for France. Nobody in their right mind can say that Hezbollah didn't ask for this. The question regarding the civilian population can be answered by the fact that the Israeli army is doing everything they can to minimize civilian casualties, to their own detriment. They've dropped leaflets on the towns they're going to attack, sent broadcast text messages through cell carriers, everything they can do to get the missiles to stop.

What person would stand for having his family blown up by missiles sent by another country? Do you think Mexico would try something that stupid with the U.S? Would anyone blame us for attacking the missile bases? (okay, France, sure).

If you want equality and freedom, work through sane methods, not explosives.

Back to the Rosemond thing, Israel is just doing what he suggests, "Make the retribution so heinous they won't try again".
I agree wholeheartedly. I'm not a Jew, nor an Arab, but I feel for Israel. If the previous poster knew ANYTHING about history, Jews have been getting crapped on for literally thousands of years, Hezbollah for decades. The Jews don't make their point by purposely attacking civilians. They make their point by sticking by their allies, standing by their beliefs and defending their country vigorously. They make mistakes, a lot of them probably, but I wouldn't want to have to make the decisions they've had to make, especially living in an area SURROUNDED by hostile nations, waiting to pounce.

what they are doing by retaliating and hitting even civilians is they are trying to cause internal pressure to implode the issue in Lebanon and force the government of Lebanon to make some radical changes or cause the international community to look down on Lebanon so that they are forced to change. This is going to be a slow progress in a region where it is male dominated and where they care less about outside influence. What the region needs to understand is that there will be an Israeli state and a Palestinian state and they will need to learn to coexist. Until then there will be little battles that will last forever.

Israel has been pinned into this position. They had to fight for what they have.. I dont think they should go after civilian targets. They should hit the political structure directly instead.

You're going to get a lot of very biased and closed minded answers here. This is a very touchy subject. I'm not Jewish.. well I'm 1/2 but I'm not religiously Jewish or Arab.

My opinion on it is that Israel has the right to attack terrorists that attack it. Whether or not you agree with the terrorists, you should expect that Israel will defend itself. Now what I don't like is what Israel is doing to the civilian population. I know that it's hard to kill only terrorists, but come on. Killing 10 terrorists and 100 civilians.. is that even worth it?

Of course not. I'm from EU and I must say this situation is mad. Israel is occupying Lebanon and the world is silent. Isn't that similar to Hitler's occupation of Europe 60 years ago, when the world was also silent because all hated Jews and some how the world was approving Hitler's motivation of killing all Jews. It's the same situation.
World justify destroying Lebanon, killing civilians because of the extremest which even don't have much power so they can't be a great danger. But the point is that world suck, with supporting of racist Jews.

P.s.: Jews think they differ from terrorist by telling civilians to move out. Are you all stupid? Why you don't move out from Israel. Why should Lebanon move from their homes, their home towns. You Jewish racist!!!

P.S.; In my country was a war 10 years ago and if all civilians would ran from their homes, our country would be occupied by aggressor. We stood up against aggressors who came with tanks, all civilians went against that, and they didn't shoot.

no ofcourse it's not fair! Jews should have never invaded Palestine in the first place but i guess the Brits are to blame for that and the Americans are to blame for the continuation of support that they give to the Jews! the Jews should stay out of Lebanon and Palestine and should stop shedding innocent blood!!! STOP THE MURDER!

Yes, it is fair, they were warned to get out. What is not fair is Hezbollah attacking Israel and hiding behind women and children, then crying foul. The only thing foul in the Middle East is Islamo-facism.

Israel is being completely ridiculous, and the U.S. needs to stop supporting them. Of course, that'll never happen, because they control us.

Things like this really make me want to go slit my wrists. What kind of sadistic being would create a world like this?
