On human motivation one must read - Maslow's hierachy of needs. I find it most relavant in in case. Though there are many other theories on human motivation after Maslow's theory, this stands high. It gives five steps - Physiological needs, Safety and security needs, social needs (love & belongingness), Self esteem and self actualisation.
In your case (and most of us) the first two needs are satisfied on most occassions. Thus, the remaining three come into existance. You should have friends and colleague who would satisfy your social needs (love and belongingness), You should have your own life values and activities supporting your values for satisfying your self esteem needs. You should be introspecting to satisfy your self actualization needs.
As far as motivation others is concerned, it should start only when you are motivated. Leading by example is the best way to motivate others.

If your are from Great Falls after college in Bozemant you motivate yourself by moving to LA or Colorado.
Pain is the best motivaton or at least the fear of it, usless you have BiPolar then only sometimes does pain work.
Just having fun, but really it is all about pain. Real pain or the worry that you might have pain. Emotional pain, hunger pain, pain from others, ego pain, etc... people are motivated to do things to avoid pain and when they hit a certain level they enjoy the pleasure of not having pain.

the problem with motivation is it takes some to get more some people fake being motivated to start the motivation but in my experience anger and reward are generaly what works best you get someone mad enogh telling them they cant do something and eventually they will do it to prove you wrong or having the end result benefit the person your trying to motivate there are lots of ways to motivate the one i hate is when they motivate by punishment urgg!!

By remaining realistically optimistic and not looking at failure as an option. Just following this philosophy, in general, is a great way to motivate.

Biological need, and emotional desire are the strongest internal motivators.
We can use reward and reinforcement to motivate ourselves or others. It's all about knowing what is important to the person who you want to motivate, and then employing those needs or desires to your advantage.
