Yes.

However, in capitalism, the goal of medicine is to make money, which is why you see about 1000 times as many treatments as cures.

I should think that would depend on where one is practicing medicine.

In most instances in the majority of the developed nations the goal of medicine is anything but to make itself obsolete. The biggest part of practicing medicine seems to be in diagnosis and treatment - not cures.

No. There will always be a need for maintenance, and a way to respond to accidents. The ultimate goal of medicine is unchanged since the days of Hippocrates, First, to do no harm. Next, to provide what relief is possible under any given circumstance. I'm sure any doctor can tell you the actual oath.

medicine will never go obsolete, as long as the the industry's goal is money.
if the day comes when there will be no disease without cure, then, don't worry my frnd, the industry will give u diseases. so much like the computer virus protectors does.
that's the nature of the capitalism dude. its gonna eat all of us alive.

It should be, but everyday there is a new disease and 20 remedies that are overpriced. How in the world did anyone raise their kids before rittalin (sp)?
I think Americans were healthier 50 years ago than they are today before our food had so much crap in it. More people than ever are on numerous drugs that need more drugs to handle side effects. Its so out of control.
