1) No matter what date it is, it's today.
2) It's a reminder that you have a "date" with the world you're going to encounter today, which is important for reason #1 above.
3) The present (today/now) is the only moment in which you can interact with or change your environment. You can't do it tomorrow; if you try, you'll find yourself doing it today, but on that date instead of this one.

Today IS the most important date of my life! Why? Because I woke up. Because today I will make someone smile in spite of themselves and help them to realize that THEY have a purpose in life. Today I will show someone that I HAVE a life and that through my own Free Will and self education I WILL survive and make it on my own. Today I will once again have an opportunity to show strength, love, friendship, forgiveness, ingenuity, and worthiness...
And if you didn't like THAT answer, today will be the most important date of my life because it shows that I was smart enough to NOT do something stupid yesterday and get myself killed....

If many outcomes will result from your behaviour and accomplishments on this very day and if the course of your life will change depending on today's decisions.
But it could also be that this date is the commemoration of an event that affected you deeply and you consider it as a milestone in your life.

Well for starters its a great way to start off fresh and a new. How many people will you affect by your actions? If your a Christian will people know it? Who knows maybe your actions will lead someone to Christ. And maybe I won't know until I have entered the gates of Heaven how important Today was.

The alternative is to wish for friday to come quicker or wishing for the weekend or wishing for a return to the past.
if on monday you say I wish it was friday, you are wishing your life away.
many events in a persons life can be important but now makes later, so now is the most important.

its to do with present text, like live today as there may not be a tommorow etc, alot depends on what your doing today,like getting married,starting university, school etc etc.
