As is so often the case with rushed sequels, the new testament lacks the quirky sense of high drama of the original installment. Despite its marvelously inventive plot twists, it is my considered opinion that certain portions of the Bible are simply too ribald for children and no more suitable in a Christian home than a copy of Hustler! I do not allow smut in my home regardless of the author and, frankly, one is hard pressed to find a book more salacious than the one written by our blessed lord.

The bible does have stories of rape, incest, infidility, adultery and the like. Each of these stories are told in one or two sentences with no titilation and all the consequences.
Hustler? I've never looked at one so I don't know what is in it but I guess that it may be for illiterate people who look at pictures. You can't compare the two.
Maybe the problem is that you are afraid that your children will read it and find the truth it contains. The content of the 6 o"clock news is more ribald, so stop wathhing the news.
Read the book for the truth and life it contains.

WELL FOR ONE THING, YES IT MAY. Perhaps you should remember that the Bible was written by men, not God. I am not Christian, I am Buddhist but have studied your faith and I find that the Bible teaches life, perhaps a bit soiled here and there by the character of man, but it is life. Nothing should shield children from the harshness or the truths of the world. How can you protect them when they know not what they are being protected against. Only by firm teaching can we safeguard our loved ones. Sometimes, your word is enough but other times, they must burn their fingers to learn the pot is hot.

I found that being that the u.s. is a predominantly christian country; the bible is the main source of religious reference, and woe to those who say anything against it. When you go to college and/or watch these specials about the bible on television you learn how tainted it really is from its original conception.
Being that it is "supposed" to be the guidance needed as to how we as humans should live our life that we may qualify to go to heaven after we die, one would expect more accuracy, less fabrication,less contradiction, more completeness, more to unite Mankind regardless of their language and differences and so on.
One would be inclined to think that after Jesus. God left us alone to fend for ourselves as to what is right or wrong. I tell you this. He has not.
God(Allah in arabic) says in the Quran in the first line of the second chapter "This is the book of which there is no doubt" and to this day 1400 years later it still remains TRUE.
Ignore the media circus going on right now and learn about islam itself, not what they are feeding the public. I am a muslim of 6 years, use to be baptist, and find even with what's going on more people are converting to Islam.

I agree as well.. but I would suggest a harder look at all three of the Abrahamic texts before I flush King James ( by the way google "king James...whoa ) It is a sorted tale designed..yes designed to guide and pen up all that wanton humanity running around below our bloated mid sections... but there's more. Isn't it strange how lurid and foul all sex except that which "grows the flock" is, ..yes the Bible/Koran/Torah seem to be alight with revenge and murder as it is for the good of the flock.. but sexual intercourse for fun ???? heathens, heretics... $inners one and all.

it's true, the bible does have a lot of inappropriate things written within it, things that adults shouldn't read, let alone children!
if you feel the "original copies" are too, 'graphic'
might i suggest that you try bibles made for children?
they hold the miracles, and lose the smut.
if you want a 'cleaner' version of the bible, i suggest you purchase one.

I guess the newspaper is too? For surely it will be an influence in your children. And magazines, videos, tv,pc...on and on...
Their your children, given by a gracious loving, G-d, don't you just think you ought to give them back to Him?
As for me and my house, I always figured I wanted my children in Heaven for eternity.
Hell was made for the devil and his angels, not humans, definately not mine.
There's enough hell on earth and this is all we will ever have.

god may have a few words for you when you meet him at judgement you see the bible is for the person who follows him if you claim to follow him then the bibl e had better be in your heart and house and as for the stories you need them to prove to you what will happen if you disobey him

Just remove the pictures and it will be okay. If your Bible doesn't have illustrations, I wouldn't be too concerned.
Anyway, you'd have to read a dreadful amount of boring stuff just to get to the nasty parts, and who's going to do that?
