They just can't seem to get rid of those few pounds of fat in their lower bodies, no matter what they do. Do we need this fat? Is it a biological necessity for our bodies to hold onto it, or just a pesky annoyance that goes along with being female?

The people who talk about the role of women as childbearers are essentially correct. It is an evolutionary thing.
The fact of the matter is,ages ago when people first appeared on this planet, you couldn't simply waltz down to the supermarket
or fast food joint when you got hungry. People were hunter/gatherers, and it was not uncommon for long periods of time to transpire when nobody caught any animals and nobody found any food growing wild. When that happen(s), and it can still happen today in shipwreck, plane crash survival scenarios, when you can't find anything to eat, your body then consumes whatever fat is stored in your body. A woman with extra fat has a greater chance of surviving a longer period of time like that, and if she is with child, her child also has a correspondingly greater chance of survival.
It's called evolution:Survival of the Fittest.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

Anyone who says "men only like one thing" are totally ignoring the fact that everyone has individual preferences. I know guys who love thin women, just like I know guys who prefer women on the heavier side. I'm a naturally thin and petite woman. I'm not pin-up curvy and I wear a size 0. I know how frustrating it is to have people tell you to eat a cheeseburger; half the time, I don't think people realize they're being rude. I know how irritating the phrases "real women have curves" and "only dogs go for bones" are because they try to invalidate those of us who don't fit that certain curvy standard. But you know something? I've been married for almost 5 years. Obviously, I my husband doesn't find me to be "gross". And anyone, man or woman, who tells you that you are gross or undesirable just because of your build is not someone who is worth your time.

The extra fat in women's bodies certainly relates to the ability to support her life when she becomes pregnant. Extra fat also attracts males. (Men are clearly attracted to a healthy looking woman more than a non-healthy looking woman. A woman who is fat is more attractive than a woman who is a walking skeleton).

Fat is not a pesky annoyance, it is the way some bodies are made. It is sad that our culture doesn't appreciate the way women were suppose to look!

I agree with the above answer. We're women, we're meant to have children, and having a good of amount of body fat helps us in childbearing and during pregnancy.

Timothy is right, its natures way of ensuring the survival of the species, in times of famine women have extra fat stores to ensure the continuation of a pregnancy or to make sure they have enough body fat to provide breast milk for a feeding infant.

In a way you are correct. I believe it has something to do with our hormones and the fact that we are the childbearers. I could be very worng.

we need that fat in the event we get pregnant... the extra fat is for cooking the baby, and then being able to breastfeed it after.
