to the conditions in Berlin at the end of the war. Just shattered buildings and rubble where there used to be neighborhoods. He said that there is only enough flour to make bread for three more months, and that most essentials are in short supply. I have always been sympathetic to the cause of Israel, but I think it has overreacted and gone too far this time. Has this war helped or hurt Israel in its fight with Hezbollah?

Hezbollah was an elected part of the Lebanese government. When the attack was levied against Israel, it came from a segment of the legal government, and therefore from the government.

For anyone to make excuses for Lebanon, it would be like Democrats trying to absolve the US of the actions in Iraq, saying that it was "Republicans" who brought this war, and not the US.

Did Israel go too far? If you think working with the UN, pulling out of contested territory, and working towards diplomatic relations with surrounding nations goes too far, then: sure, they went too far, and got a missile attack for their trouble. That should teach them.

P.S. Has everyone noticed that the spell checker now recognized Hezbollah? It used to try to correct it to hyperbole.

When a trained dog bites it's not enough to put down the dog you have to go after the trainer. In this case Iran and Syria are sitting back while Israel commits propaganda suicide because it has a right to protect itself. It does have that right but every child they kill every with their military technology that is quoted to be within 3 meters of accuracy only hurts them. Every Red Cross they mistake for the Red Crescent only hurts them because they have the burden of humanity on their shoulders. We expect terrorists to act like terrorists and lob their crude missiles into civilian neighborhoods that's the ace in the hole for them. We don't expect a technology advanced military to go in and decimate a countries internal structure in an effort to root out a faction. That's what this is becoming with the international community looking on apathetically. They could stop this but they refuse to go after the hand that's feeding the dog and meanwhile civilians die and a nation is decimated. The responsibility of justice and compassion rests on the Israel as the "collateral damage" toll rises it will hurt them. I wonder if this means more contracts for ? This is like Hitler's war machine invading the Flintstones Bedrock. They have the right to protect themselves but with all the technology on there side they have the responsibility to be the example of humanity and wisdom. I'm afraid that's been set aside for the sense of entitlement and we wonder why the Palestinians elected the Ha mas into government. One more example of Israels actions coming back to bite them in the ***.

As for those who argue "that Hezbollah wants Israel wiped of the map" what does Israel want ? They want the exact same thing their motive is not different and they'll ruin Lebanon to achieve that goal. This is exactly what the United States did ruined Iraq to win their war on terror and no one was lobbing missiles into our back yard ? We suffered a terrorist attack and invited ourselves into the Middle East power structure invading Iraq now occupying them for how long no one knows ? Mission accomplished ?

Hezbollah is looking for a cease-fire. They want Israel wiped off the face of the map.

I'm guessing that they are hurt pretty bad to want to give up to the people that they are trying to exterminate. Then again, Hezbollah has never wanted a fair fight, they would rather blow up market places and bus stops, then run and hide.

Hezbollah asked for this fight, and now that Israel is bringing the fight, Hezbollah doesn't want it...

Can't even trust them to stick to their killer mentality...

I don't support any party (neither Israel nor Hezbollah).
Hezbollah is a stamped Terrorist Group & we can expect bad things from them (recket fires & suicidel Bombings) but Israel is (I suppose) is a responsible member of international cummunity & hence should follow international laws & rules.

This is a PR catastrophe for Israel.

I feel there is a lot going on under the table that I don't know about.

Israel has had to become a very tough, astonishingly militant country in order to survive. I fear for their future and mistrust their enemies...

If you were pushed until your back was against the wall, would you fight or lye down and die. Israel will not give up or die, regardless of what it takes. End of story.
