I am only 15 but I really noticed how music has no meaning and how its really stupid these days, I liked 50's,60's,70's& some of the 80's music. But what's wrong with today's music? and do you think that older stlyes of music will come back out?

I just LOVE when someone your age notices the quality, or lack of, music that has been coming out for the last decade or more.

I'm 41, was born in the mid 60's. My stepdad was a musician in a few different bands. I was subjected to a lot of different genres from the time I was a baby and am thankful to my family for that. Everything from The Carpenters, to Led Zeppelin, from Motown to Big Band music. What I've noticed in recent years is that music now is just a bunch of noise. It's either lacking quality lyrics or quality music and in some cases, both. I can't tell you how many times in the last 4 months or so I've seen the bands on late night shows and how bad they are. It's like nails on a chalk board. Ahhhhhhh!! I'd say that I can count on one hand how many times in recent months that I can say I actually saw someone playing on a show that can really sing, or a band that made me stop and listen to every word, every beat, every strum of the guitar and that I would consider buying their CD. There's another thing....I can't believe the prices people are paying to listen to some of this "music"!!! Jeesh!

There are few artists that I'll buy and/or listen since the early 90's or so. I've resorted to making my own compilations so I can still enjoy some of the best music ever put out.

I think it IS making it's way back. I think people just may be getting tired of hearing songs about how someone wants to kill his mother and rape his wife, and watching a bunch of grown-ups dancing juvenile moves and looking rediculous because they're too old to be doing so. And making that happen is the "boy & girl bands".

As long as there are young people such as yourself who recognize this issue and are not allowing themselves to be sucked into the black hole of the music industry, we'll be on our way.

Here are a couple of articles to prove it. {:o)
{P.S. Thanks for asking such a great question}

rap and hip hop are the reasons why music suck today.since they have taken over most music production companies only want to make those types of songs.

I mostly like Kelly Clarkson these days... Ever since 2002 i think music has started to drip down the drain since all this technology companies want to show off.

I do admitt i like the bubblegum pop days... like backstreet boys, nynsc, 98 degrees, britney spears (songs before the im slave for you cd back out), jessica simpson (old times), etc.

I also like the 80s, 70s, 60s, and 90s. Im not so sure about 50s

We can only hope that music will be good in the future

The only way older more popular ( and by far better ) music styles will make a comeback is for enough people to turn away from the "alternative" rock and Rap garbage that's out today.

Today's music sucks because 17 years ago, some record label thought it was a cool joke to sign up and promote a talent-less band ( their name will be witheld ) and watch them go down fast in flames. However, the reverse happened and $$$$ rushed in.

And so a trend was born--which sadly continues today.

I pray and have hope the "older" styles of rock music come back to kill alternative and rap. But I say again: it'll take A LOT of people to raise hell and demand it to the major record labels AND popular radio stations.

Who's ready to join the Rock Army?????? And what's our first plan????

i think a lot of us are rediscovering the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, are you are, because a lot of the music these days isn't very good. i read an article in a recent edition of Rolling Stone magazine about how classic rock sales are going up cuz lots of teens are rediscovering it. But it's classic rock, so it'll always be good stuff, you know?
I actually don't know the distinct reason why music was so much better back then, but i agree with you that it was.
the only thing that remains constant for me, though, is U2 ;]
hahhaha

What music its all noise!!
Old music does come back for example Take That did some beegees numbers. BoyzZone did Cat Stevens. Robbie Williams keeps singing oldies without destroying them.
'Dont stop me now' (Original by Queen) now done by McFly was top of the British Charts a few week ago.

What you remember is the best of the oldies you dont remember the tons of crap music that came with it. Same with the music now the good songs will live forever and 20 years later you will listen to the rubbish that victoria spice just afor a laugh.

You are absolutely right about music.

What it lacks these days is MELODY, memorable melody to go with the lyrics. The Beatles were the last great song writers.

Punk and Rap actually celebrate the fact that they have no melody. But the melody is the inspiration, it's the voices of the nine Muses talking to us (and we can't understand their inspiring voices, so we here "music" instead, the language of the Muses).

The beat goes on, but beat alone is not a melody.

What's going to happen? Some entirely new trend is going to take over, probably something international from India or South America. That's my guess.

I think the same thing. Now, it's all about money and becoming popular. Very very very few artists are actually out there to make great music. Music with heart and soul. Now it's just rap or grungy rock with everyone in the band dressing like a 50s rock star or with eye liner. No one is original. The most original artists that are out now (and not that many) are the ones who just come out and sing. No antics.

For instance, the most recent artist to catch my attention is James Blunt. He just sings. And stares into the camera in his videos. No wild antics or makeup or weird costumes. Just a guy singing his heart out.

Those things used to be fun but once everyone copies a style of music or art, it loses it's beauty.

It sucks because the kids these days (the main target of the music industry) are completely tone def. There will never be a day when all music is horrible, but you have to dig deeper than the mainstream to find good music because kids these days buy whatever people tell them is cool instead of going and listening to good music that isn't as well known.

Maybe you're just not listening to the right music. True that most music played on MTV is pointless and just catchy, but there is still a lot of good music out there. Keep your ears open, check out stuff like myspace music or your local music scene. Support real artists and keep the music artistry alive.

music has been taken over by big business.they have a very tight control over what you get to hear.they don't want to risk losing money over interesting or expressive music.they are also training you to accept their products and large companies simply buy their way into the charts. todays music has nothing to do with music, but i can assure you there is heaps of cool stuff out there.go to some underground clubs that are not filled with r'n'b pop lovin tossers!and if you like older music then get into it.quality never dates, besides music is for you.it is very personal.it soulds like u have good taste, enjoy!
