you can't make a career. if you want to START your career either click on the newspaper and than click find a job or if you have a computer click on that than find a job.

There are quite a few new careers you can download from http://www.modthesims2.com , there are also tutorials on that site that explain how to make a new career for your sims. The moderators of that site are very helpful and if you need help with any aspects of making the new career, you can post your question in the forum and they will do their very best to help you with it.
