its been six years since the yankees won it all...i think they are due...they have the players to do it year in and year out so the law of averages makes me think this is their year especially since they are doing so well despite many injuries...go yankees!!!!!

I'm not sure that they will stay on top for long, but they will definitely end up there. All they needed to do was just stay close until they got healthy, but they've more than done that. Abreu is already paying off, and A-Rod and Giambi are beginning to heat up. Wang is on a roll, Mussina has pitched well all year, Dotel is close to coming back, Cano is due back next week. Even without Sheffield and Matsui, the offense is looking good. Now let's see how Boston does with some key guys out.
I just love how people say the Yankees should be there with their payroll. They've used Aaron Guiel, Terence Long, Nick Green, and a bunch of other journeymen and Boston STILL couldn't put distance between them and the Yankees! I love it! They are going to regret not burying the Yankees when they had the chance.

I LOVE THESE QUESTIONS.
To answer your question, yes.
In the past like 2 weeks our team ERA is around 3.
First of all,
Moose=dominate.
Wang=amazing.
Johnson=on a good day, YAY.
Wright=solid.
Lidle=good today but we shall see.
I'm sorry but out of all the contenders I favor our pitching staff over Boston (whoever thinks otherwise is crazy) and White Sox.
I'd also take our pitching over the Mets in a heart beat.
Twins scare me, but I don't think they'll make it to the post season. If they do, they're offense is weak compared to us which gives Moose and Wang a good chance to shut them down leaving us to scrap a few runs out of Santana and Liriano.
We already know how Tigers fair against us. We can easily beat them.
Our team recently looks calm, confident, and good all around. Good, consistent offense, and more than good pitching. I like our chances. This is the year. I can feel it.
Plus, we're the only team with the best closer in baseball history.

With the guys who are injured maybe they can. Its too bad though that they can't get there on their own merit and bring guys up from their farm teams. Having to constantly outspend the other teams and buy off their best players doesn't really show anybody anything. Anyone with the Yankee payroll can do that over time. It really just shows how bad they are at developing their own players. Go Twins, they are a fine example of low payroll and player development.

The Yankees could slip just as easily as Boston did. Boston still has a chance at wining either the wild card race or their own division.

Hell Yeah!! On top of the division with 3 HUGE injuries to all star calibur players hideki matsui, gary sheffield, and robinson cano, all while Alex Rodriguez has been in the biggest slump of his career. Just as they are starting to get healthy the red sox are starting to get hurt and are going to just fall further and further behind. Add Bobby Abreu, Corey Lidle, and Craig Wilson to the equation and we got a world series title baby. GO YANKS!!

If the Yankees have managed to stay on top despite the injuries to Matsui, Sheffield, Cano, et al., it makes you wonder how they'll do with a healthy lineup.
Everything comes down to pitching. And momentum.

I hate the Yanks, but it looks like they have their act together.
A World Series? I am not ready to take that leap just yet. Their starting pitching still seems weak. On the other hand, their offense is so good, maybe they won't need it.
They look good right now but it is still only early August.

they may end up in 1st at the end of the year, but I think the Red sox will be back in 1st at somepoint,and they will see saw back and forth the rest of the year..the Yankees made some good moves of course, but I think Liddle will fall off after 3-4 good starts, and then when the get Sheffield back I think he will be slumping the rest of teh year, and hurt the Yanks..so many times a star comes back, and just cant get a groove
