Journals are typically something of a scholarly nature ie like the Journal of Medicine, or The Journal of Anthropology. Magazines tend to be written to the masses of people, Journals are written specifically to people in that field

In any journal, it is meant to take up a particular field and discuss about the search, research & development. Also the subject contribution is done by great Intellectuals, Industrialists, Men of the specialities. A journal published once in a month, quarterly, half yearly or annually.

A reader requires lot of past information before going through (a subject in) the journal, as it always deals with information of the present & future.

A magazine is the one for for every body as per the age and interest! eg, weekly magazines, fortnight magazines and monthly magazines.

In a magazine a number of mattters are dealt, right from recepies to comics, jokes, short stories, political situation, continued serial - historical & social stories, views of subscribers, question & answer, matrimonial and lot of advertisements

The journal is always read by the person involved in that specialised field.
