We are sold the idea that by voting once every four years..we the people can effect change... I would submit that democracy is a participatory sport and requires constant interaction with the public and its statesmen (people) but do we take it seriously ? And is that why we are so out of sorts with our own government ? I know people don't want to hear it but pole after pole shows a dissatisfied citizenry.. ?

I write my congressmen and senators fairly regulary actually. Have even offered and worked hand in hand on issues with some of them. The last letter I wrote to a NC senator was a slap in my face though. I addressed an issue and she sent me a canned letter back because my letter to her was about the time of the immigration law that was recently passed. So, Sen. Dole probably won't be getting my vote since she nor her staff apparently read my letter. My letter had nothing to do with what my response was.

I write and send faxes almost weekly, to express my disgust with the ILLEGAL ALIEN INVASION and our open borders. I ask why are we being betrayed by a President and a Congress that drags their feet while thousands invade weekly. No sugar coating, no beating around the bush, I use plain English.

Islamo-fascists will not define the future of America, but the status of our southern border certainly will.

I also ask why we do not have enough troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to do the job and when will that change.

Once in a while, I receive an answer that addresses my concerns.... usually I get a form letter that has nothing to do with my letters.

That has changed somewhat since I started telling them I will not vote for any politician at any level of government that does not speak out against illegal aliens and speak for closing the border and deporting illegal aliens.

Politicians are constantly in NEED of a dressing down on issues, they forget America while in their mad pursuit of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and political power. Citizens need to keep them on track, we sure as hell pay them enough for what they do.

I have written to both the federal and state senators here in the Soviet of Washington . I received nice letters in return that said absolutely nothing, promised nothing and didn't relate a position regarding the issues that I raised. The senator and representative (federal) in fact, ignored my questions and concerns and only sent back a form letter that addressed something that I hadn't inquired about, along with requesting my vote at the next election-yeah right. Think I will continue to vote Libertarian-closest thing to "None of the above," catagory on the ballot. The state Senator surprised me with not only writing personally, but actually included my comments and concerns in the next leglislative session. I don't normally vote for her party, but I will vote for her in the next election.

It was 3 months ago. I wrote Senator Fienstein about the Senate bill on Immigration. She wrote a nice letter back saying that she opposed blanket amnesty. She then promptly voted for it. I don't think I can trust her, but she as 55% approval in the polls.

Ignore the current events for a few days and learn something they don't want you to know

I write to senators and congressmen all the time ... I'm outraged about their limp wristed efforts when it comes to curbing the illegal immigration ... and I won't give up writing ... there's no way in the world I'll vote for anyone who doesn't do anything sensible about this ludicrous situation ....

I've not only written to my own but to several from other states that I think are particularly vocal in expressing opinions that I strongly agree with - and a few with which I strongly disagree.

Why bother, they don't listen to us poor folk anyway. I don't have thousands of dollars to give to their campaign funds, so they sure aren't going to listen to anything I have to say. They only go towards where they can most line their pockets
