I just found out she has Lupus today and I would like to email her a song that'll carry her spirits. I was listening to Mary J. Blige and U2's - One Love but I'm not sure. What does that song really mean? Please help.

"What does that song really mean? Please help."
It's actually just called "one" =)
I love this song. it's so brilliant.
Although that song has been used for a variety of uplifting moments (world cup, One campaign to end poverty, etc etc), ironically, it was written about the bitterness of a relationship falling apart. people sing along all the time, but if you really look at the lyrics:
"We're one
But we're not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt"
it's a break up song (as Bono puts it in his own words: 'It amazes me when people tell me they played it at their wedding or for comfort at a funeral,' Bono says. 'I go to myself, "Are you crazy? It's about breaking up." ' (Los Angeles Times, 8:th of August 2004)).

what i love is the story behind the song: it was written while U2 were going through tough times as a band, and it saved them from breaking up. They had spent some time discussing whether or not they had finally used up all of their creative energy and talent. Eventually, they decided that they probably had, and Bono went to the mic and began playing this song. The rest of the band began to play along, and they soon had a renewed faith in themselves. They completed the rest of the album afterwards.

i would recommened U2 - Walk On
or
Delirious - Every Little Thing
or
Switchfoot - The Shadow Proves the Sunshine
the title says it all. the presence of a shadow (darkness) proves that somewhere, there is light shining down on us.

but don't send her too many melancholy songs. those three aren't melancholy, but they're not upbeat and fast. maybe throw a few of those in too to mix it up a bit, i bet she'd appreciate it =)

The song is actually called "One" and was originally released on U2's album Achtung Baby. The song originally wasn't supposed to be uplifting (it was more about ruined relationships) but I think the song has been turned into more of a uplifting song. (Bono's lyrics usually came have different meanings. http://www.u2star.com/lyrics/ (for more background on the song)If you like U2's songs, some of their other "uplifting" songs are Beautiful Day, Walk On, and Pride, but I think One is a good pick (one of my personal favorite U2 songs and I do like the version with Mary J Blige too) I'm sorry to hear that your friend is sick.

Be sure you will not give her the impression she is pitiable... it is very destructive. Something positive, even with a bit humor would be good. Make her smile, and you'll do a lot for her.

How is about "born to be wild"... i have to smile always when i hear it, and feel like a can move mountains...

HILARY DUFF

"Fly"

Any moment, everything can change,
Feel the wind on your shoulder,
For a minute, all the world can wait,
Let go of your yesterday.

Can you hear it calling?
Can you feel it in your soul?
Can you trust this longing?
And take control,

Fly
Open up the part of you that wants to hide away
You can shine,
Forget about the reasons why you can't in life,
And start to try, cause it's your time,
Time to fly.

All your worries, leave them somewhere else,
Find a dream you can follow,
Reach for something, when there's nothing left,
And the world's feeling hollow.

Can you hear it calling?
Can you feel it in your soul?
Can you trust this longing?
And take control,

Fly
Open up the part of you that wants to hide away
You can shine,
Forget about the reasons why you can't in life,
And start to try, cause it's your time,
Time to fly.

And when you're down and feel alone,
Just want to run away,
Trust yourself and don't give up,
You know you better than anyone else,

Any moment, everything can change,
Feel the wind on your shoulder,
For a minute, all the world can wait,
Let go of yesterday,

Fly
Open up the part of you that wants to hide away
You can shine,
Forget about the reasons why you can't in life,
And start to try,
Fly
Forget about the reasons why you can't in life,
And start to try, cause it's your time,
Time to fly.

In a moment, everything can change.
