Psychologist say mental and emotional abuse are far more damaging than physical.
I know this because I was abused emotionally and mentally.
One of the reasons is that if I had been hit people would of know.
The family & friends would see the abuse. But, when it is mentally, the abuser can pretend to be the good guy while privatily continueing the abuse. Often the abuse is so umbelieveable that some people do't think it is possible for that person to do that to another person.
With someone who hits , a woman can move away. With mental abuse the abuser sticks in the womans brain and spirit. It is a hard battle to overcome it.

I think mental abuse is worse.

With physical abuse, often there is proof... cuts, bruises, broken bones.

But with mental abuse, you can't see proof. There are no physical markers. Add to that, it can take away one's self esteem, making a person feel worthless and feeling like they don't deserve better than what they've already got... meaning the abuser.

No one should have to live with either type of abuse, and there are many programs and hotlines to help a person get out of situations like those. Believe me, I know...

both are pretty hard, but mental is worse,, i think it stays with the person for a life time and affects what they do more.. physical abuse heals with time, not that its easy to get over it, but mental abuse leaves stronger marks.

Nice question ..

I've seen both forms. Kids who are physically hit and abused tend to do better than people who've been mentally abused...In many cases, the emotionally abused kids will cut themselves or mutilate themselves just to get rid of some of the stress that's been put on them. I figure if they think that physical torture is relaxing, it must be hard to imagine what they've seen in their minds.

Though they both can be extremely bad and lead to life long problems . My answer is physical abuse because it encompasses both types of abuse at the same time. If your being physically abused it's certainly going to take an emotional toll also.

Mental abuse...naturally!! Physical abuse may give you a few bruises and cuts but heals faster!! If you had retaliated this abusem you sometime feel satisfied and forget the issue. Mut mental tortire is really painful to your psyche and it will take years to forget or forgive that!!!
