You are asking where so, probably Italy's a good place to watch Italian movies.

Divorce Italian Style
Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

L'Aventurra
Once Upon a Time in America
Cinema Paradiso
Il Postino (The Postman) - NOT the Kevin Costner disaster.
Life is Beautiful

Those people who recommended The Godfather have picked a great Movie, but it's American, not Italian. These are all made in Italy by Italian Filmmakers

Life Is Beautiful

Starred in and directed by (I'm pretty sure) Roberto Begnini (sp?).

This is a heart warming, funny, touching, devestating, but most of all, absolutely BEAUTIFUL film.

If you are an English speaker, I beg beg BEG of you, do NOT get a dubbed version. A hugely satisfying part of the film is marvelling in R.B's wonderful voice!

This film was a bit controversial as some saw it as trivialising the holocaust. I have to absolutely disagree. The way the story is told and the premise it takes, I feel, illustrates the seriousness of the situation so much more intensely than your standard, run-of-the-mill, war movie.

A wonderful movie, something for everyone, and enjoyable on so many levels.

Hope this has been helpful!!

Depends on your tastes. Italian cinema is as varied as any Hollywood offering. If you are looking for something mainstream and kind of classical, I'd suggest something like Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita (The Sweet Life)", Giuseppe Tornatore's "Cinema Paradiso", or Roberto Benigni's "La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful)."

If you are looking for something a little more suspenseful and "out there," I'd recommend just about anything by Italian director Dario Argento, from his early works including the film "Suspiria" to the recently realeased "Il Carterio (The Card Player)."

For Classic Italian westerns, look no further than Clint Eastwood's so-called spaghetti westerns by director Sergio Leone (with soundtracks composed by the equally legendary film scorer Ennio Morricone).
