wait, yahoo have discovered the greatest ever market research machine in the history of mankind, they have found a way to make it addictive, and we are all slaves to it. Link it with the demographics in 360, and the messages in your e-mail, feed all the questions and answers and e-mails and demographics into a super main frame, mine the information, and control the world, nothing less, my friend, nothing more

A lot of people feel their knowledge is inadequate in real life so they say nothing, but here, you can almost compete with other answerers. Without arguments ensueing. I spend many evenings reading answers and learning, hardly ever answering.

Simple -- anonymity.
That and the need to have one's opinion heard and validated. Yahoo Answers is a fascinating forum. Too bad a majority of the opinions here are poorly stated, unresearched and generally unhelpful!

I can think of two answers:
1. Remaining anyonymous allows people to ask questions from people they don't know in case it might be silly.
2. Personally, I'm not a big talker; I'm not one of those girls that gabs on the phone for hours; I want quick answers to questions and that's the end of it.

How do you know that most of what is typed here isn't said in real life?? I don't have a problem saying what's on my mind, here or in real life.

If you answer under anonymity, you feel safer. Also, if you're in a stinky mood, your neighbors dont have as much chance of finding out youre bein a brat! lol
