Depends on if you want to know about your health.
A Pap smear is a way to look at a sample of cells taken from a woman's cervix. The test is used to look for changes in the cells of the cervix that show cervical cancer or conditions that may develop into cancer.
All women who are or who have been sexually active, or who have reached age 21, should have an annual Pap smear. It is your best tool to detect pre-cancerous conditions and hidden, small tumors that may lead to cervical cancer. If detected early, cervical cancer can be cured.

Every woman should have a pap smear around 18-20 years old for the first time. If you are sexually active, it is VERY important to have one done before that (and one every year or when your doctor advises).
Non-sexually active women are usually advised to get one done every 2-3 years.

It's a good idea if you are sexually active. Pap smears can detect pre-cancerous cells caused by HPV (a virus that causes genital warts.) You don't have to be sexually active to have one. I don't think you have to go as often if you aren't sexually active.

Yes, please go regularly for a pap smear. My best friend stopped going when she turned 18 and this past year she died of cervical cancer. Because of the problems she had, I finally got myself checked and learned that I was in the stage of pre-cancer. If I hadn't gone, I could have suffered the same fate. Don't mess around. It can happen to anyone.

yeah, it's definitely advised to have a pap-smear. last time I checked, my gyno told me they're giving them to 12 year olds now. It prevents cancer, and you can get cervical cancer whether you're active or not.

Well.. you don't HAVE to... but it is always a good idea to start getting one once a year after you start having your period or when you start becoming sexualy active. It helps to check and make sure that everything is ok down there and also means your in seeing your Dr. and can ask any questions you might have.
