I understand your need to shake things up a bit. It's commendable that you have been with the same company for 19 years. In these uncertain times, maybe you should stick with it, and retire with the company, and then look for more satisfying work? Have you considered volunteering your free time to a worthy cause? That might provide a new environment for you without risking your employment. However, you need to go with what your heart wants. If you can financially afford to go without work for a few months if you wind up without a job, then go for it! Just be sure to secure that new job before you quit your old one. In the initial interview, it might not be a bad idea to bring up your concerns, to see what the environment there is like for more seasoned workers. There are still lots of employers out there that recognize the value of the older worker; you just have to find them!

it's pretty rare to hire someone for your age during this modern times...

y not go for interview to check out what the other companies offer 1st before tendering your resignation...

That way, you'll at least have a brief idea on your worth in the present job market.

Change is as good as a Holiday. If there is higher money earnings potential, it may be worth while. I tell you one thing is to never burn bridges. Try ending of your current position on a good note. You never know if you will need them again ?

This must be so frustrating for you. These are those life situations which seem so simple. But in reality so darn hard.
Good luck. Please let me know how it unfolds. Make wise decisions.......

Stay in the same company until you can retire on an early pension, then start looking for another job.

most of the time when youve been with a company for that long, and you leave on good terms...they will always rehire you if you want to come back. i say if you feel like you want a change...go for it

Not quite true. THE boss and the people you work with would make a huge difference.

Look for another job that challenges you but do not leave where you are at before you get another.

i think its not the job that you should worry about, its what you do with the income that matters. what you convert the income into to provide additional streams of both passive active streams of income.
