Most people think they need to get a patent when they have an idea when in fact very few people need patents and they waste the money and worse yet the time to get a patent.

It is better to get your idea out and make some money off it before the larger companies steal your idea. With a patent it is FIRST to invent NOT first to patent. So you have a year after your item becomes public knowledge to patent your idea. After that year no one else can patent and within that year you can still apply for your patent pending.... it isn't that simple but what it does is it allows you to make several prototypes and see if you can sell them get funding or show them to others to get funding.

I suggest you try and do as much as you can yourself. With the internet you can learn just about anything in a few days research. I learned how to run a CNC Lathe and Milling Machine online and also learned to program VB.net online. Try to do as much as you can without spending much money.

If your idea is that great a good presentation if you don't have a prototype will get you the funding.

Remember, if your idea starts selling other people are going to make something just about like it and beat the patent laws so if you waste your startup money getting a patent you lost that time you could have been getting a huge market share.

Anyway. If you can't make a prototype yourself, you can get on a computer and make a great visual presentation and if the idea is that good you have a year to get some Venture Capitalist interested in your idea. Let them buy into it and pay for the prototypes and patents.

Have a GREAT Day !!

NOLO is a great, free informational site. Also, be sure to read what the USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) has to say about patents.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Getting a Patent:
* Patent It Yourself (11th Edition) by David Pressman
* Patents and How to Get One : A Practical Handbook by U.S. Department of Commerce
* How To Make Patent Drawings Yourself: A Patent It Yourself Companion by Jack Lo
* The Inventor's Notebook: A Patent It Yourself Companion by Fred E. Grissom

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

don't trust anyone with your ideas they will take it and use it and pay you nothing for it.. save money and find a patent for it.. then trust who you want

Send me what little money you have. I'll send you a patent.

Do not get one. What will you do if someone steals your idea. You don't have money to sue.
