Strange & Beautiful By Aqualung
I've been watching your world from afar
I've been trying to be where you are
I've been secretly falling apart
To me you're strange and you're beautiful
You'd be so perfect with me but you just can't see
You turn every head but you don't see me
I'l l put a spell on you
You fall asleep when I'll put a spell on you
When I wake you
I'll be the first thing you see
and you'll realize that you love me
Sometimes the last thing you want comes in first
Sometimes the first thing you want never comes
I know the waiting is all you can do, sometimes
I'll put a spell on you
you'll fall asleep
I'll put a spell on you
and when I wake you
I'll be the first thing you see
and You'll realize that you love me...

I've certainly been there. The song that often pops into my mind in that situation is "just my imagination" by The Temptations:

Each day through my window I watch her as she passes by.
I say to myself, "You're such a lucky guy."
To have a girl like her
is truly a dream come true.
Out of all of the fellas in the world
she belongs to you...

But it was just my imagination
running away with me.
It was just my imagination
running away with me...

Ooh-hoo-hoo-hooh
Soon we'll be married..
and raise a family.
In a cozy, little home out in the country
with two children, maybe three.
I tell you, I can visualize it all.
This couldn't be a dream for too real it all seems.

But it was just my imagination -- once again --
running away with me.
I tell you it was just my imagination
running away with me...

Every night, on my knees I pray,
"Dear Lord, hear my plea...
don't ever let another take her love from me
or I will surely die.."
Ooh, her love is heavenly;
when her arms enfold me,
I hear a tender rhapsody...
but in reality, she doesn't even know me

Just my imagination -- once again --
running away with me.
Tell you it was just my imagination
running away with me.
I never met her, but I can't forget her.
Just my imagination..
-- ooh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah --
running away with me

This song can somewhat relate to that I think. It's called Perfect Situation and it's by Weezer. Oh! Another good one is Patience by Guns N Roses.

On My Own, from the musical Les Miserables, DEFINITELY! It's the exact same situation, and the character Eponine sings about her sadness sooo passionately.

It depends on if your situation is actual love, or if it's another Hihg School infatuation. In most cases the "I love you but can't have you." is more like an infatuation, a crush, puppy love. Unless you've had that person before, know them well, or otherwise.. chances are it's another infatuation.

3 Libras by A Perfect Circle

threw you the obvious and you flew
with it on your back, a name in your recollection,
thrown down among a million same.
difficult not to feel a little bit disappointed
and passed over
when i've looked right through
to see you naked and oblivious
and
you don't see me.but i threw you the obvious
just to see if there's more behind the eyes
of a fallen angel,
the eyes of a tragedy.
here i am expecting just a little bit
too much from the wounded.
but i see through it all
and see you.
so i threw you the obvious
to see what occurs behind the eyes of a fallen angel,
eyes of a tragedy.
oh well. apparently nothing.
you don't see me.
you don't see me at all.

waiting on a Sunday afternoon
for what I read between the lines,
your lies.
feelin like a hand in rusted shame
so do you laugh or does it cry?
reply?
leavin on a southern train
only yesterday you lied,
promises of what I seemed to be
only watched the time go by,
all of these things you said to me.
breathing is the hardest thing
to do. with all Ive said and
all thats dead for you,
you lied - good bye
leavin on a southern train
only yesterday you lied
promises of what I seemed to be
only watched the time go by,
all of these things I said to you.

or

I used to be lunatic from the gracious days
I used to be woebegone and so restless nights
My aching heart would bleed for you to see
Oh but now...
(I don't find myself bouncing home whistling buttonhole tunes to make me cry)

No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word

(The lover speaks about the monsters)

I used to have demons in my room at night
Desire, despair, desire... SOOO MANY MONSTERS!
Oh but now...
(I don't find myself bouncing home whistling buttonhole tunes to make me cry)

No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me in silence
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word

(They were being really crazy
They were on the come.
And you know what mummy?
Everybody was being really crazy.
Uh huh. The monsters are crazy.
There are monsters outside.)

No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me in silence
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word
Outside the word

My fave...It's so sweet and meloncholy and has no words. It can be romantic, sad or whatever you want. "Sleepwalk" by Santo and Johnny. Camout in the 50's I think. It's the last 'song' on "La Bamba"....very beautiful I think. Look it up-it's worth it.
