My friend, Maria Silva Galvan, married Salvador Cardenas Mora, in June 1977, & a year after marriage, seperated from him because of personal reasons, but doesn't know whether or not if he divorced himself from her after all these years.

Some counties have their records online under the Auditor or Records departments, but divorce records aren't usually available online. You usually need to be an interested party to get those documents from your county or state. Not always, though. Just contact the county that they may have been divorced in, and probably a couple of neighboring counties to see if there is a divorce filed for those names.

One thing to remember is that back in the 70's, most states still required a divorce to be answered/signed off by both parties. They didn't have many no-fault divorces or divorces in absentia. If your friend wasn't notified of divorce proceedings, they may have never occurred.

Not 100%, though on the details since each state is a little different. Probably wouldn't hurt for your friend to hire an attorney to help wind the way down this path. Doesn't hurt to have some professional help in this instance.

Yes there is a way to find out. You need to contact the courthouse in the county that he was seperated in. It'll be in their public records. You may have to pay anywhere from $2-$15 for this information, but they'll have it on record if a divorce judgement was granted.
