A person should expect to gain perspective on the world as a whole as opposed to simply understanding your own circumstances and that of those in proximity to your day to day life. The problems of one culture are not necessarily the same as the problems of another culture and by studying political, economic and cultural issues the similarities and difference are revealed. Each person should take his or her own experiences at such an event and return to his or her own day to day activities and apply as he or she sees fit, or take it upon his or herself to find some kind of life's work in becoming involved in a situation that he or she finds particularly intriguing.
