So me and my friend go to a Bare Essentials after hearing about the many good ratings its foundation has gotten. The lady matches a color for me and my friend and FOR BOTH of us it looks CAKEY. But then again it feels great of course. What's up with that? Do you think we just had the wrong lady look at the foundations?
Or do you think its my skin she couldnt find a color for? I do have like Tyra Banks skin with extremely strong yellow undertones. (a light caramel) HELP!!

it sounds like the woman didn't know what she was doing. for one it sounds like she didn't get the right color and for two she seems to have used too much.
Try again and ask for someone who knows how to apply it right and in a good tone for you.
Good luck.

I have been using that makeup for 5 years now and love it. But the first time I used it I had that same feeling. It probably is the color that is wrong, and through trial and error of my own, I have found if you put a makeup primer on before the foundation it smooths it out better. I use Laura Geller "spackle" as my primer, but Bare Essentuals has their own called Bare Vitamins that you can use. You do have to practice with the foundation though, when they say "tap off the excess they mean it"! Too much can make it cake and it doesn't work right.

I use there foundation and find it very light and it gives you a natural, flawless look. Maybe you're applying too much. Also, it's always good to apply lotion on your face and let it soak in a couple of minutes before applying foundation. This way your skin poars will not soak up the foundation and leave an uneaven, dried-up appearance.

I SWEAR by BareEssentials!!! try going to an ULTA if you have one. they are excellent in helping with the shade, and with a $25 (the cost of the foundation) purchase you get a make over, so they can show you haw to apply it. bare essentials is tricky. if you don't apply just the right amount you will get a real cakey look.

If it's cakey, that means it's the powder-- not the color. If your skin is oily and you apply powder, it can give a cakey look to your face. If that's the case for you, then it would probably help to oil blot your skin (or wash it) before applying powder. If it's not, Bare Minerals isn't right for you.

I'd go back and get a different person to help you. Once you find the matching shade you'd never know it was on! I love the stuff! If it looks chalky, it's too light, and if it looks cakey, she put way too much on. It's very, very easy to put too much on until you get used to it: maybe she was kind of new?

I think the sales lady didnt know enough about the Bare Essentials. she needs more training. it shouldnt be cakey at all. I use it and its wonderful. Go back and ask for another sales girl.

i think either a. too much was applied; or b. it wasn't the right colour. the only other reason i can think is that maybe it has something to do with your skin type. Sometimes if you have oily skin (like me) it's best to try a liquid foundation.

My friend uses it and she let me try it once and I hates it. It looked totally cakey on my skin and I couldn't wait to take it off. Everyone says it's lighter (in application, not color) but it wasn't the case at all.

Here's what I use:

and

I love it. It feels great and it's NEVER too thick. Go to their counter and give it a try. Good luck!

I have the same problem... And thanks for talking about Bare Essentials... I was going to buy it...

What I found with my "yellowish skin tone"... MAC is the best company that carries a lot of color shades for our skin color...

Try the powder compact, its light and won't clog your pores... Its definitely not CAKEY...

Try it...
