Before I go to sleep, other than the usual things like wash your face and brush your teeth, I have to be lying in the same position every night, have my arm arranged just one certain way, make sure all the covers are above my shoulders, fan on, hugging a little pillow, etc. Is this normal or obsessive-compulsive?

Well ya know... its is a little OCD but hey, I am sure we all have our certain way of doing things. I know that I have a "routine" every night before I go to bed. It goes back to when you are children. Kids do very well with a routine, when they don't know exactly what is expected of them or what to expect in a situation they get very confused. It is quite possible that stays with us into our adult lives.

It appears to be normal, except that if situation demands, you should be able to have some flexibility. But it is perfectly okay to have a choice about anything when available.
The obsessive-compulsive is about more of fault finding with the way things are , where the other person is also affected even if he ready to adjust with as-is-where-is situation.

Obsessive Compulsive:

A pervasive pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and mental and interpersonal control, at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by four (or more) of the following:

Is preoccupied with details, rules, lists, order, organisation, or schedules to the extent that the major point of the activity is lost

Shows perfectionism that interferes with task completion (e.g., is unable to complete a project because his or her own overly strict standards are not met)

Is excessively devoted to work and productivity to the exclusion of leisure activities and friendships (not accounted for by obvious economic necessity)

Is overconscientious, scrupulous, and inflexible about matters of morality, ethic or values (not accounted for by cultural or religious identification)

Is unable to discard worn-out or worthless objects even when they have no sentimental value

Is reluctant to delegate tasks or to work with others unless they submit to exactly his or her way of doing things

Adopts a miserly spending style toward both self and others; money is viewed as something to be hoarded for future catastrophes

Shows rigidity and stubbornness

In otherwords, a certain amount of obsessiveness is ok, even normal, much like anything else, but when it is effecting your life majorly, then is it a problem. So your fine.

My ex-hubby had to have us go to bed at 10:15 every night, he would do 1 squirt of nasal spray, bend his head on his bible and pray while rubbing the spine, and then have sex until 10:30. Every night.
For 10 years. Exactly the same.....AAAGGGG I left him before I was totally insane...on the other hand, I am the same as you when it comes to actually falling asleep, and no, I don't think of that as obsessive, just a need for comfort.

That sounds just like me! I have to have a fan running for "white noise", And I need a "huggy pillow" too. I like a really cold bedroom. Maybe we are compulsive, but it works for me.

I think routines, even if they're that specific are fine. Whatever helps you to turn off your brain so you can have a restful sleep should be done.

Christmas Eve morn i flow and get the turkey from the butchers, and get each and all of the veg. Then in the afternoon me and my Dad flow around to be certain each and all of the that we are going to no longer get to be certain Christmas Day (each and all of the large aunts and uncles and issues). once I get residing house i'm going to be in the lounge with purely the Christmas Tree lights fixtures, the hearth and a few Christmas movies or music, and wrap each and all of the provides of folk i'm going to be seeing on Christmas Day. in the night I even have some acquaintances and family members around for a night meal, and that they often stay til 10.30- 11. And the day ends with me, my Mum and my Nan strolling right down to the villlage for ineffective night Mass in our little village church that's purely lit by using candles, and that i'm getting to be certain each and all of the previous village people who I under no circumstances somewhat see in direction of something of the year with the aid of fact I stay away. i do no longer likely think of maximum human beings of the human beings there are non secular, yet its a advantageous journey, and whilst i exchange into transforming into up I sang in the choir so its greater approximately custom for me than faith, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it does no longer be Christmas devoid of it! whilst we get residing house we will all have a tumbler of wine and a mince pie and open a recent each and each, and my undesirable father waits up for us so as that he can manage the stockings as quickly as we've long previous to mattress! I awaken on Christmas Morn to the scent of turkey cooking with the aid of fact my Mum instruments it to start cooking approximately 5am, and then me (and my sister if she has come to spend the night) will flow into my mum and dad room to open stocking provides (remember we are 25 and 22!), that are often stupid comedian tale issues. Then we will flow downstairs, and open any provides around the tree, and that i make a particular breakfast (often cream cheese, smoked salmon and bagels with fruit salad) and we watch for my family members to come again up (there is often approximately 20 human beings). We spend the finished day mutually and have a huge lunch, and purely relish each and each others corporation till 6 or 7pm. Then in the night my large aunt and uncle are available in from around the corner and we play enjoying cards or board video games, and have a pretty buffet supper, often engaging in a honest quantity of wine or the atypical sherry for my Nan. All in all, its spectacular!
