I know coil and slab techniques are the oldest (and still used) but about what time in human history did potter start "throwing" on a wheel?

I believe it would have actually been after the developement cities. Not necessarily of large empires or civilizations. As cities developed the wheel had of course been developed as a way of moving trade goods faster. And grindstones had been developed in some places to grind grain. Someone probably turned a grindstone sideways and made pottery on it.

I think it was in the time when most ancieent civilizations like the sumerian, the Mesopotamian and the Indus Valley Civilization flourished. In India this method is still used.

the egyptians used themit must have been before christ's time as he drank from a cup that had wine in it froma bottle or jar

i feel india, its been written in purans that the technique was much earlier in india.
