Well, how old are you? You're mom probably won't help because she probably feels that because you're so young it'd be better to use pads for now.

As for wanting to know how to use them, hun there are instructions in every box of tampons. Read them and look at the diagrams that show you where and how. Its self explanitory

Okay, relax! Welcome to womanhood.

First it depends what type of tampons you want to use.

There are types called OBs, which have no cardboard applicator, and are extremely comfortable (They're very tiny, almost the size of a lipstick applicator)

If you're using traditional cardboard/plastic applicator tampons, it's the same exact ritual as an OB.

The hole you urinate out of is called your urethra. Nothing should go in there, just come out. Okay?

There will be a larger hole underneath your urethra. This is your vagina. When you menstrate, blood will emit from here, and only here (Mainly. :p).

Lets assume you're using a cardboard applicator. Hold it in the hand you're dominant with, holding the small depressed area just below the main shaft of the applicator. Place one foot on top of the toilet with the other flat on the floor. Slowly insert the applicator into your vagina and push it towards your lower back (At a slight upward angle).

You will know when it's in the right place when you can't feel it anymore. You CANNOT push the tampon into a place where it can damage you. It can only go so far, and will not go further, so don't be afraid.

When you have reached this point, push the plunger (The long thin tubeular part) completely down and slowly retract the plastic/cardboard applicator. You should now have a long string exiting your vagina. LEAVE THIS THERE. This string is to remove the tampon. If you can feel the tampon, or if it's uncomfortable, you can either remove it and try again (WITH A NEW TAMPON), Or you can slightly tug the string to pull it back a little until it reaches a more comfortable spot. NEVER attempt to use the same tampon more than once.

Change your tampon every five to six hours. Failure to do so allows you to run the risk of contracting a terrible, but rare and sometimes fatal bacterial infection called TSS, or Toxic Shock Syndrome. It's where bacteria forms on the tampon from the natural bacteria in your vagina and seeps into your bloodstream a toxic combination of the two.

To remove your tampon, sit on the toilet as if you're about to pee. Reach underneath you and pull the string. If it's painful, or hard to pull out, let it remain inside you for an hour more (Unless you have reached the maximum of six hours). There will be some slight discomfort.

ALWAYS use the tampon that matches your flow. Light for light flow, medium for medium flow, heavy for heavy flow, and so on.

***ALWAYS USE A PAD DURING THE NIGHT***. You run a higher risk of getting TSS during the night than you do any other time. NEVER wear a tampon overnight.

While you are getting used to tampons, you might want to wear a light pantyliner to catch any leaks and spills, just until you get the hang of it.

Good luck, and if you have anymore questions, feel free to let me know. :)

Welcome to womanhood.

Okay defenitely relax, read the instructions and look at the diagrams. Position yourself on the end of the toilet with feet apart, and then unwrap tampon holding onto the end with the string where there are grooves. Slowly and gently insert into your vagina and then pull the cardboard or plastic case out. When you go to the bathroom next change your tampon by pulling on the string and disposing of it in a trash can. Don't leave a tampon in too long because it can cause something called Toxic Shock Syndrome, too long is days. I change my tampon every time I use the restroom, it is costly but less likely of getting an infection.Maybe you should contact a doctor or nurse about this, I am not a professional, just a mom. Or ask your bestfriends mom, or another family member you feel comfortable with.

You insert a tampon in your vagina, which is the opening below your uretha. You should definitely get a responsible adult's help before trying to put it in by yourself. I read American Girls "The Care And Keeping Of You" for more information on inserting tampons.

why do you want to use tampons. I only use pads. they come in different sizes and don't make as big of a mess (nor do they hurt!)
