Whenever my sister deletes a song off the computer it is deleted off of her ipod (when she plugs it in).

Is there a way of preventing that from happening? Or do you need to keep all the songs on your computer to keep it all on your ipod?

Yes, you can prevent it. If that is happening, then it means that your iPod is set to "Automatically Update songs and playlists".
To change this, click on the little iPod icon on the bottom right of the iTunes screen. This takes you to the iPod settings. Select the "Manually update iPod".
Job done. Now, you can delete songs from the library without it affecting your iPod.
Note, once the songs are gone, they are gone for good unless you download them again. If you decide you want it back in your library, you cannot copy songs from your iPod to your library (without a really technical procedure) so you will have to download it all over again.

Its frustrating, but you have to keep the songs on the compute for them to be on your iPod.
