I'm a moderate -- middle of the road all the way -- but that still gets me labeled as a tree-hugging hippie by the right wing extremists every time I disagree with them. Everyone seems to know that the extreme left is communism, but the right-wingers refuse to acknowledge that the extreme right they keep pushing for is totalitarian fascism, which is more oppressive than communism.

Because if people didn't have an enemy to attack on abstract ideological grounds, then they'd be forced to actually address the issues.

And that would require thinking about the issues and listening to what other people had to say. How horrible! Can you imagine what the world would be like if people actually listened to each other and worked to find solutions to problems, rather than just pointing fingers and fighting about their differences?

I consider myself in the middle. I want a strong economy / big business (because no one has ever gotten a job from a poor man), and also social programs to help the needy (some people truly are not capable of taking care of themselves).
