I had my nails done a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted tips with gel overlay. I went to a cheap place because I needed them donw that day and I didn't have time to book anywhere else. He put on the tip and then pulled out powder that looked an awful lot like acrylic, put that on, and then put on a gel overlay. When I asked him if it was acrylic he said that it was a gel powder. Is there such a thing? Is this a bad way of doing nails?

Yes, when I go to my person she uses gel and it's beautiful. When I need a quick fix I go to Quality, lovely, beautiful, Nail (pick one) and they all use that powder into gell stuff. It's not nearly as bad as acrylic, not nearly as good as gel.And if you have a regular gel lady? SHe'll be VERY VERY mad at you!!!

I have heard of it. You need to go under a UV light afterward to activate it.
