Ah, that's easy. Darth Vader survived decades of fighting. Darth Maul died in his youth. You gotta be both stronger and smarter to survive longer. Everybody thought that Anakin Skywalker was "the chosen one", because of his unsurpassed abilities in the Force (remember that mumbo-jumbo about the impossible concentration of midi-chlorians in his blood?) D. Maul was probably good on Mace Windu's level, but he was no match for the Emperor - otherwise he, like a good Sith, would have tried to kill him. D. Vader was in the same league as the Emperor, so he succeeded in taking him out, even at the price of his own life. From what we know he could have been the strongest Jedi in the whole history of the order, past or future.

In the end you have to look at their personalities
Vader was seduced by the allure of power that Palpatine offered; Maul hungrily followed, like an attack dog. In the end, Vader overcame the Emperor's evil; something Darth Maul couldn't do.

Vader would definetly win. I am however disapointed with the lack of history behind Maul (with the exception of some books probably that I'm never going to read). And to the above poster who said Anakin beat Maul already, that was Obi Wan who killed him after Darth Maul killed his mentor.

Vader was losing when he fought Maul because he wasn't that experienced at using his heavy armour. If you played the game Star Wars The Force Unleashed, you will notice that Vader can counter fast attacks from his apprentice, Starkiller. He became a more skilled fighter when he got older.

If Obi Wan could have beaten Darth Maul, than Darth Maul wouldn't stand a chance against Darth Vader. He can kill you from across the room!

Darth Maul, I believe, and here is why.

Of course I love the original Darth Vader more than this upstart Darth Maul, fear not! I am loyal! I am just trying to be logical.

Darth Vader has heavy body armor that restricts his movements and makes it hard for him to do the acrobatics that made Darth Maul the ultimate assassin.

Darth Vader has no real arms, and according to a legitamate Star Wars source, can not summon Dark Force Lightning, which Darth Maul can, although I do not recall him doing it in Episode 1.

Darth Maul was more focused on hatred, but, also according to a legitamate Star Wars source, Darth Vader was seen by Emperor Palpatine, at some period between Episodes 3 and 6, as weakening due to losing touch with his hatred, which makes dark force power strong.

Darth Vader just may be so much more powerful and experienced than Darth Maul that he could overcome these things and still win, yes, but that is something not so quantifiable as the above. Thus, I give Darth Maul the mantle of victory, forgive me!!

P.S. If you take the Darth Vader from just before contronting Luke Skywalker at the end of Episode 6, at the peak of his power, I submit that he may win and overcome all these points, simply due to his intoxicating amount of experience, raw power, and intelligence. Darth Maul was, admittedly, portrayed (in the movie anyway) as little more than a lackey. I am by no means to be considered officially well versed in this story universe. This is simply my attempt to make an educated guess.

Dude... Annakin's (Darth Vader) metachlorian count was higher than even Yoda's... Darth Maul would not be able to stand a chance, The only reason that Darth Vader seems like a lamer fighter is because in the original trilogy they didn't have the technology to make rad fighting scenes

Darth Vader. They did fight in some Star Wars book. I don't know which one, but my friend is a Star Wars junkie and he told me because he read every star wars book imaginable.
