i can picture the lawyers shaking their heads and going "no no, this is no good...some idiot will take the medical advice they get on this site and kill themselves, then sue us"

which is hard to believe, you know, considering answers like "lol um im prety sure u can mix sleeping pills n gin, but thx for the 2 points!"

or

"Well, as a person who took a finance class 20 years ago in college, I can tell you that the best place to invest your kid's college fund is in Lebanese tourism stocks, they are undervalued at the moment and due to take off any time. Good luck."

to me this disclaimer is more like a declaration that its totally ok to ask the stupidest questions i can think of, ya know...like this one

You mean stupid questions like most of mine.

So, what we have to do now, is find someone who isn't quite literate, and have them completely f*ck themselves up, following advise that they got on Yahoo Answers, then sue Yahoo for damages. When Yahoo presents their disclaimer, and asks him if he's read it, he says, "Yeah, I saw that thing... What's this word? And how about this one?" Slam dunk.

Then, Yahoo will counter by making you pass a reading test to get a Yahoo ID.

Ten years from now, to get anywhere on the Internet, you'll need a urine test, a stool sample, a form filled out in triplicate, and a note from your mother.

It's purely legal reasons. Even TV shows that offer advice, such as Dr. Phil, must have disclaimers. It's just a way of covering their asses in case some weirdo decides to sue them over information received. But that is ludicrous, because we all know that 1. there are no weirdos on yahoo answers and 2. no American would ever sue someone for such frivolous reasons.

This is the level our country has sunk to as a result of people suing someone for their stupidity. Now everyone has to spell everything out because you have to assume that people have no common sense.

I'm of the opinion that if you are stupid enough to follow the advice of someone you have never met (for example--someone who gives you medical advice instead of simply going to a licensed doctor)--you deserve what you get. It's time we stop blaming others for our mistakes and start taking personal responsibility for our actions. No more Twinkie defenses!!!

Because a lady sued McDonalds a couple of years ago for having hot coffee. Because the neighbor that lives in the valley under you can sue YOU for having a pond, and their land flooding.
Because you can sue someone for saying something bad about you in public.
This land is your land, yes...this land is my land...no.
