It won't hurt at all if you don't have anything wrong with you. Just remember, it's better to catch something wrong than to hide it just because you're afraid of what might happen. The actual physical examination won't last more than a minute.

That website has a wealth of good info to prepare you for your first visit. There's really nothing to it, you make it worse the more you think about it!

You will be asked to undress and put on a gown and paper sheet. The doctor who examines you will have a nurse in the room with them as a chaperone. You will be asked to scoot your bottom to the end of the table and put your legs in the stirrups and allow your knees to relax, which will cause them to swing apart and expose your perineal area to the doctor. They will use an instrument called a speculum (metal or plastic) that will be inserted inside of your vaginal opening then expanded so that the doctor can see your cervix. It is slightly uncomfortable, but will be easier if you relax. One way to relax, both when the speculum goes in and when it is expanded, is to blow your breath out. It may be embarrassing for you, especially if you've never exposed yourself to a stranger, but the doctor sees many different people every day and is a professional. You will be fine.

While the exam is not fun, it is not really painful. You might feel a twinge when they take the sample. It hurts much less that a shot. Do not be afraid, it is good that you are taking care of your health. I find it much less stressful than the dentist.

No, it doesn't hurt. When they insert the speculum you will feel a slight pinch. Just try your best to think of something (anything) else. You'll be surprised how quickly it will be over.

If you have a good doctor it doesn't hurt at all.

It's just uncomfortable and embarrassing. But get use to it they prefer to do pelvics once a year.

It depends on the dr. and how gentle they are. The main thing you have to do is relax, I know it's kind of hard but try and it will be done before you know it. Good luck!
