Why, for women to be considered beautiful, have to be skinny?

I mean, imagine the world being the opposite: plump women are beautiful and gangly women are ugly. Why have humans put skinny women as the stereotypical beautiful ideal woman?

women are naturally curvy...and that is sexy. why do guys need pencil thin women who they probably could snap in half quite easily? ok...the media...hollywood...but who makes up these things? US!!!!!!!!! WE make up these things? how could humans be so shallow?!

yes i agree that skinny women like nicole look dead...but some do look pretty...hey we need meat on our bones and yes i am aware that even 50 years ago curvy women were beautiful and the pencils were u-g-l-y!

i agree with this last post. well im still not satisfied: HOW did ppl get to this point? forget straving ppl and the obese. compare the average woman and the flat tummy woman: who wins??

OKAY GURLY-First MODELS wearing the latestt fashion....they don't make those in plus sizes so if you want the lates Prada low cut to the but...you better be a size 2...SECOND....it shows good health too some people....that you take care of yourself...i know some are on crack...but anyhow......MEDIA killed the cat....i am 5'7 and weigh 115...yes most would say i am skinny...but i hate it and i eat like a pig....no exercise at all, and many ...many check ups to make sure I am okay...so far no tape worms ( you started) or diseases...I think curvy women are beautiful... i want the curves and all that butty that comes with....at 14 yrs old...i weighted 160 lbs. i wore a size 12 pants 38Cbra........now at 36 i wear a size 2 and a 34-B cup...gosh I miss them....dang it......i lost the weight through my parents divorce, and was never able to gain it back..no i have gotton over it...and have a wonderful relationship with the two of them. I almost think them splitting was a good ideal. But my body shuts down when I reach 120 it doesn't want to eat anything...i even get sick if I try...you don't know how many friends i have lost , and enemies made...because of them not understanding and saying I am going to kill myself trying to be skinny. I hate that public has done this....so many little girls are ruining the health trying to look like a star in BOLLYWOOD...

I know! its disgusting the way people expect women to be nowadays. back many many years ago women who were heavier and had curves were thought of as gorgeous. no if women are 10 lbs overweight they are ugly and disgusting. i think of culture and society is to blame and the present generation should do something about it. i think being gangly and anorexic looking is disgusting and nothing to be proud of. curves are good. i mean look at jlo and beyonce! plastic surgery and the need ot be prefect is taking over. we are gods creatures and we should accept ourselves for who we are. gorgeous women!!! <33 I mean like seriously, should we take nicole richie and paris hilton as our examples. they are born rich brats. who have nothing better to do than lose weight by not eating. i know if i was that loaded i would eat all day, i would hire a great chef and they would make me the most fabulous meals ever!

I think it's because that's the way that everyone in Hollywood thinks. So everybody decides that they have to agree with them. Honestly, women that are toothpicks are pretty nasty looking. They don't even look that healthy. Seriously, next time you see a picture of Lindsey Lohan, look closely at her skin. She has more wrinkles and lines than my 51 year old mother!!! It's not so much that they're pretty, they can just afford to be pretty. Women with curves on the other hand tend to be in better health than those who starve themselves.

That is totally a Hollywood thing. I just saw a recent picture of Kate Bosworth and she looks like she's about to drop dead. But in the movie Blue Crush she was a little hottie (and a few pounds heavier).

Note to all women: If you want to stay healthy and keep your sanity, stay away from Hollywood.

Because of the times you are living in. When your grandmother was a girl being as slender wasn't a goal. The soil was in better condition and vegetables grown had more nutrition in them. Also because of the part of the world in whidh you live. Mentally look back into history in various parts of the world. Another thing...meditate upon the word "greed" and think about its many manifestations today and therefore how desirable is discrimination and self discipline.

there have been times when a plump woman has been considered the ideal...look at the Victorian era...and different cultures have different standards of beauty. and skinny is not beautiful at all....it is mal-nourished looking...and 100 years ago these women would be pitied and thought homely...styles change...and what man wants a boney woman in bed???

Gurl im skinny. Im 5"7 andim 100 pounds. i know but im built this way. i eat more then my papa and he's over weight! but anyways ppl call me ugly all the tyme(thats only wen im yelling at sum1,other then that im beautiful). its the way you express yourself. Heavy Set gurls that walk around with their body janglin out makes other ppl feel uncomfortable,skinny women that walk around with rails as arms are disgusting to sum ppl. we all live in a fantasy land. If the fashion industry wanted ppl of all shapes and sizes they would just be giving away money but they're really looking for skinny gurls witha pretty face and great posture. If a "fat" gurl walks in there witha collerd shirt and long jeans with black sandles and a skiiny gurl walks in with the same outfit, its all looked at in attitude. Presentation is Key. the media. Magazines and movies show women that don't weigh as much as my 11 year old son. Girls see this and feel fat and ugly. People should be proud of what they are given. I am not saying that people shouldn't want to stay in good health but girls should not strive to look like Barbie.

Who said skinny is beautiful,not everyone likes skinny women,lots of men like women who are heavier its personal preference...but let me ask u this what would you rather watch...a fat naked Angelina Jolie in a sex scene..or slim sexy Angelina Jolie? Most women keep so slim because thats what you men want!!!!
