NEVER getting married in the first place! My ex-spouse abused me AND my children in so many ways ... so that is the one change I would make in my life. It would have afforded me a cushion over the worst parts of my life -- and protected my own financial status better too (I was the one who was earning the higher income -- and he just took, took, took).
