The only alternative natural fuel is the HELIUM in the sun. The ethanol, bio-diesel etc. are secondary fuel, after all derived from the solar energy (during photosynthesis). After some times, these secondary fuels also will become scarce and costly. Thus the only alternative and ultimate fuel is the solar energy (helium). The Indian government supports the non-conventional energy conservation practice. The National Institue of Rural Management, Hyderabad, India is having so many projects that support the non-conventional energy harvesting system in the rural areas of India.

You would think with all out technology, that someone would come up with an engine that runs on an alternative fuel, or even water. But if someone did, do you think the government would allow marketing of it? No, they wouldn't. I also read that we have the resources to build more oil refineries but won't do it.

we could use ethanol (corn oil) methanol (farts) hydrogen ( fuel cell technology that uses water as fuel) which they are testing out in Cali right now. solar power, electric motors... the list goes on and on... the point is, most car companies own controllilng stock in oil companies. so they dont want to see the public with another option to crude oil based fuels

The only other alternative that I know of is that vehicles are being made to use less fuel like hydraulic cars and scooters.

Nuclear...if we weren't so afraid of it.
Solar power
Wind power
Ocean tides
Other than that we can be more efficient by putting variable speed drives on motors, using compact flourescents for lighting...etc.

Solar energy is the best source of energy as it will always be available. However we cannot tap the solar energy to our fullest but one day solar energy will replace all other forms of energy sources.
