Being an artist can be extremely enjoyable and extremely frustrating (sometimes at the same time, sometimes the feelings alternate).
I know when I'm really into what I'm painting, I have a strong feeling of just, pure enjoyment and sense of contentment. (I don't know if that's even a word, but I'll say it's okay to use because I'm an artist. :-) ). At times I do get sucked into the image I'm painting--I become absorbed in the process of applying the paint to the canvas, or mixing the colors on the image to get the right effect, or starting off getting the color I want to try and get the effect I'm going for. And it's quite a good feeling to step back at a piece I've been working on and be happy with what I made.
I also enjoy being able to look at art and have a deeper understanding of it--to be able to look at a piece and try and pick apart the techincal process, or have a sense of how this color works with this color, or how the image (or lack of image) compliments the overall composition, or totally doesn't work.
I'm also studying psychology and I always find it intersting how art and psychology compliment each other so well.
So I guess to sum it up, art is enjoyable. And it sounds like you have a desire to get involved...if so, just do it. It's hard to say what it means to be a "good" artist...I've learned, from studying it for so long, that being "good" means you're putting your all into what you do and really trying to exprss to the fullest extent you can your aritstic ideas. Good art isn't necessarily about techincal skills, it's about intention and effort. And of course enjoyment. :-)

Why don't you find out for yourself? Anyone can be an artist. Anyone. It comes more naturally for some, and others (like you and me) need to work harder at it. It's worth every second tho. I am not one of those people that can pick up a pencil and create a work of art. It costs me blood sweat and tears to make an painting, but I love love love it.
By the way, there is no such thing as "good in art". Really there isn't. The best works I've seen were of people who thought they'd never be able to make anything, but decided to let go of their inhibitions and just start drawing.

It's funny, people who wish they could be artists but don't think they're creative enough. I think that anyone who has that wish in them is a potential artist, you just have to find your niche. Not all art is paint and paper, a good chef is an artist, so is a gardener.
If you ever wanted to be an artist I recommend this book
"The Artists Way." by Julie Cameron, it was written to help people like you find your creative side. The very first point the book makes is that those who long to be creative are called shadow artists because a part of them knows their true desire, but their more logical practical side keeps shooting the dreams down. Read it, it will open your eyes.

to be an artist is letting go of your emotions. it is where your feelings come through. it is a medium of communication where other people can share themselves with others. It is love of all things beautiful.
being an artist makes you want to tell a story (in a visual sense). it makes you want to let others know what you feel or what is happening to people anywhere (which you get to do actually). it gives you the distinction of being one of those people who can give satisfaction or healing through the creations and artworks done.
Some people need total or otherwise a peaceful and quiet environment to create art. But sometimes it can't be helped so you have to learn to work well even if there are other people around or are in quite a noisy or even cluttered area.
It's fun being an artist. you can create and recreate stuff. you can tell a story. you can share anything you want with the world. although yes there will always be people who wouldn't approve or like your art, but as some people say - "to each his own."

For me it is like a meditation. Art, and particularly making art, is the visual entrance into the mystery of creation. A portal of sorts. If I have no distractions while making art I truly go to another place. Time has no meaning. I believe the art comes through me, rather than from me. All art is sacred art if the artist feels it comes through them. It is a humbling experience that I am always grateful for.
Thanks for asking that question, most people don't go there.

When I paint or draw, the world around me continues to revolve, but I feel myself separate from it. I not only look at, but intuitively reach out for and feel the object I am focusing on, whether a physical object in front of me or something from my own mind. I visualize and feel it and it gradually takes form on canvas or paper. Because I can feel what I am drawing, the portraits I paint have life, the eyes reflect the life behind them. Without that it would just be a picture. You have to feel the life or lack thereof in an object in order to appropriately reproduce it.

Let it "flow". Try some art and just let your energy flow through your instrument to the page. Don't worry what it looks like- you don't have to show it to anybody if you don't want to. Just let your energy transmit to the medium. Make a practice of that and you will become an artist.

Lol, it's fun, and relaxing. No your world doesn't change. It's just pure pleasure to the mind. It's a great way to earn extra money if your really good at it. And it's fun to see the expressions on people's faces when you do a good job. Don't get discouraged though, cus they like to point out your mistakes you make.

Being an artist is like, creating a whole fantasy world that only you can go to... it like your imagination, only everyone else can see what's in you head and, what's in your heart. It's a wonderful feeling when you've drawn or painted something.
