I can't use any search engines (i.e.: Google, Yahoo! search, etc.) even with different browsers (IE and Firefox). Does anyone know the reason why and how I can possibly get things to work again?
Life is hard without being able to search. ):

seems like a problem caused either by ad-ware or spyware .. and/or is caused by a modified hosts file or restrictions in the Internet Options Security panel.

First, go download the freeware version of Adaware SE and run that.

Then check to make sure the search sites are not restricted by name in the Control Panel | Internet Options | Security Tab

delete any entries that may be there and reset security level to medium.

make sure the Firewall (if installed) is not blocking requests by temporarily turning it off (either in Control Panel | Firewall) or if using a third party software program like Norton Internet Security disable that).

if you are using a router, make sure that these sites arent blocked in the setup/configuration.

I think your most likely culprit is spyware and would start there
