You CAN bleed during pregnancy, but it is not menstruating, which is the shedding of the proliferative lining of the uterus created especially for the growing fetus. Things that can cause bleeding are implantation of the embryo into that lining, which usually occurs during the first month, threatened abortion, which is chronic bleeding and usually accompanied by cramping, placenta previa, in which part of the placenta lies over the cervix and bleeds into the vagina, placenta abruptio, in which the placenta starts to disengage from the wall of the uterus (this usually occurs later in pregnancy), and any number of vaginal or cervical conditions unrelated to pregnancy.

You should not be menstruating during pregnancy- once you have conceived and the egg has implanted into the uterine wall, your body will release hormones which eventually reach your ovaries and halt menstruation. Think about it: menstruation is a monthly sloughing off of your uterine wall along with a released egg. If you are pregnant, the last thing your body wants is to get rid of your uterine wall, since it is what provides initial nourishment and support for your fertilized egg.

Not true menstruation, but some women continue to have small 'breakthrough' bleeds, sometimes during the entire pregnancy. Some small amounts of bleeding lasting a few days can occur without harming the baby, but should be reported to your doctor. If there is any cramping accompanying the bleeding you should seek medical attention as it could be a sign of miscarriage.

It isn't abnormal for some spotting however if it is a regular flow I would let you doctor know just to make sure. I went through 3 pregnancies and never did. But every pregnancy is different.

No -- you definitely wouldn't go through menstruation -- you might have some "break through" bleeding though. If you are even so much as having a single drop of blood and pregnant, I'd call your doctor immediately.

It is possible to experience menstrual like symptoms, including bleeding, during pregnancy. However any bleeding during pregnancy should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible to rule out the possibility of miscarriage or other problem.

I think that I have known women who have gotten their periods while pregnant. You are very early in your pregnancy so I wouldn't be too worried but, if I were you I would play it safe and talk to your OBGYN.
