As you get older, it is probably harder to train your body to do them. And certain people with certain injuries may never be able to do them.
However, simply having non-limber tendons isn't really an excuse. Stretching twice a day, every day, for a lengthy period of time can help you 'learn' them. It took me several months as a teenager of stretching every morning before school and every night before bed. And I am by no means naturally limber. One side is far better than the other, but it was just determination and dedication that got me to do them.

ok well the problem with most that iv'e seen is that not all of the muscles are streched enough to do the splits! now I don't know if your talking about the chinese splits or the american? where the chinese is completely flat and your facing to the front of you, or the american where your facing towards the right or the left and this is easier to do than the chinese way! anyways you need to do exercises that stretch every muscle basically in your body! if your doing something and it doesn't really hurt but it should then your not stretching correctly and your not getting any results! if you've been trying for years than you should have seen a lot of improvements from where you started in the beginning! when I strechted for the split this is what I did!
get a partner
then both of you sit down
and have your legs like in the split way but flat on the ground, so your legs should be opened! woah that sounded wrong, but anyways
then have your partner put his/her heels on your shins or closer to your knees!
your partner should be really close to you and his/her knees should be bent because they will try to push your legs outward and have their legs completely straight!
while doing this they chould hold your hands and then in a circular pattern both of you lean inwards while the other leans backwards! and then the same, but the goal is to lean all the way where your chest hits the floor and then also all they way where your back hits the floor when your leaning backwards!
My explanation isn't probably that great, but I think you could do it with a couple of tries!
just always make sure that you take things easy and slow for certain areas, because it could take months to repair a tear in a muscle!
Good Luck and enjoy being flexible! ;)
and yes most people just can't do the splits, but from your background you should be able to or really close doing it in the end!

I wasn't able to do the splits when I was younger and I would try hard everyday then I put on a pair of pantyhose and was on my bed trying to do them and went down real fast it hurt but I was always able to do it after that. And also I don't think weight has anything to do with it I have a friend that weighs probably about 250 pounds and it 6' tall and she can do the splits. Although I stopped practicing around the age of 13 and now at 22 I can't to it anymore.

Work at it, I couldn't do them forever when I was dancing, and my friend was still doing them when she was 8 months pregnant. When I finally got it, it had taken weeks of doing nothing but trying all of the time, sliding down and then holding until I thought that I would die. It helped me to slide out on the bar to warm up, that way I could get all my muscles stretched and loosen up my hips, because that was what hurt me the most when I did the splits. Good luck :)

I heard on a show about contortionists, that given the proper training, anyone could do what they do, including the splits. It takes about 6 months of training with stretching exercises.

Unfortunately it sounds as though you never had to develop a personality as girls always came to you in high School, cute and sexy no longer works, now you have to be a man, things change and so do girls as they become women. You may be trying too hard, relax, don't talk about your self all the time, ask the girl questions like you are really interested, It will come to you in time and with practice.

When I was in drill team, we did a routine where we all had to do the splits. It took lots of stretching of my muscles beforehand to do them. I even soaked in warm water and stretched before. I finally was able to do them. Good luck.

I think it's true that some people just can't do the splits because of their bone structure, but ask a doctor..

Some people who are tall have a hard time getting down to the ground in spilts. The shorter you are, the easier it is.
