That forms a near perfect V centered around the 12 position over the face, while leaving the rest of the face free to display what ever else is there. That could be another dial or just the manufacturer's name.

You know, I noticed this too just last week, I was looking at posters of watches and they all had 10:10 on them! Those are good reasons, also you should add that 10/10 is National Day in Taiwan (where perhaps some of these watches are made?). It was also the birthday of Christopher Reeve, Yul Brynner and Orson Welles. And as Orson used to say, "We will sell no wine.. before its TIME." The connection should be obvious now!

I suspect that the watch position is one that is the most aesthetically pleasing to the eye, also it shows off the hands, frames the make of the watch and the hands don't block off any of the features of the watch like the day/date or any inner chronograph dials. I don't know who decided this, must be millions of $$$ in advertising research...

haha. I never noticed before but I did a google image search of watch and wristwatch and about 30% are at 10:10 and a good 70-80% are sometime during the hour of 10.

The reasoning must be marketing. I guess upward pointing hands are happy looking as compared to boring, depressing 4:40 hands. :p

It just makes the watch look better and you can clearly see both hands without having to look at the whole watch. I saw that fact on a t-shirt the other day.
