It will fall off when it's ready. Some doctors suggest alcohol others just say to wait. It won't stay on forever and unless it's infected and you see either swelling, soreness, or any kind of discoloration or puss you don't have to worry. Keep it clean and totaly dry. I'm assuming you know not to bathe your baby in the tub or under water until a few days after it falls off. In the mean time keep sponge bathing him and it wont hurt to use a little alcohol they don't feel the cord itself. Good Luck!

I own the book "What to Expect the First Year" , which has come in handy. You are still ok. It can take anywhere from one to four weeks to fall off. Give it a little more time and just keep it clean. No soap or anything is necessary. Just a little water when bathing and then blot dry. Congrats!!!

I would like to add that when I said a little water that does not mean clean it with water. I simply meant that while sponge bathing if a small amount comes in contact it is okay. Just make sure it gets dried. Rubbing alcohol is an option, not a necessity. I didn't use it with either of my boys but it is fine if you choose to use it.

Are you cleansing it three times a day with alcohol and a cotton swab? If not, that may be the reason that it hasn't fallen off yet. It needs to be soft to gradually peel away from your baby's skin.

Have you been applying alchohal to it. You need to apply alchohal to it every other time you change his diaper. Give it another week or so and then yes a doctor would be wise
