Is there hard psychological/scientific evidence that this really has an impact on a child's development?

I've never seen any such studies but your library could help you search. In my part of the world the f-word is a normal part of everyday conversation in many circles. It would be very hard to shield a child from it, and they use the word, I'm sure, but they don't swear around adults. I was raised the same way. It can become a bad habit. A person has to learn self-control and it doesn't hurt to not teach children what you don't want them to know. Everybody's naked under their clothes. It's usually a religious hang-up if you believe the human body is "evil". It's a very sad thing that we seem to accept the belief that all bodies have to look like Pam A. and Arnie S. to be beautiful. If your child sees you get out of the shower or walks in while you're dressing, it shouldn't be a big deal. In many cultures, nudity is normal. In NA, we seem to think that the sight of a human body will start riots :)

Because you don't want your children exposed to all the nastiness in this world. You want to protect them from things that aren't healthy. Of course it has an impact on a child's development. A child is much better off learning his ABC's rather than swear words!! It's not rocket science.......

There are certain things that need to be kept at a dull roar so to speak. Most parents don't want to go to their childs first grade parent teacher conference and have the teacher talk to them about how their kid constantly is cussing or teaching other kids human anatomy 101. I also think that the older they get the better it is not to sheild but rather discuss it openly. I was shielded and let me tell you, as soon as I could find out what was so special about it, I did.

Swearing will not harm children. But, it is wise and compassionate to teach children to avoid shocking the elderly with words that mean something different to them than they do for younger generations. For example, you or I may not be shocked by the word "Crap". But, an 80 year old person might be disturbed upon hearing that word, because, although language and its meaning continuously change, people tend to lock onto meanings for words early in life and hang on to them forever rather than change with the language. Also, the practice of thinking of an alternative word can help boost children's cognitive abilities. As for nudity, assuming there is nothing sexual or violent about the nudity, it is very harmful for children to hear the message that there is something wrong with nudity or their own bodies.

I don't think it would if the parents are smart about the way things are perceived , would depend on age of child, swearing they will hear soon enough and they need to be aware what it right and wrong and as far as the naked thing, i really dont know

A song we happen to hear very frequently somewhere , gets into our 'humming' list inconspicuously !
Like wise, these things which shape the attitude in a particular way, by coming back frequently and unconsciously , tend to become our trait . So undesirables are better shielded.
The very same technique is used for aggressive marketing in TV advertisements !
