We come in contact with so many germs all the time anyway--unless hand shaking is unique in its ability to spread germs, let's stay courteous!!

Of course, I'm a big hand washer advocate.

i think the problem today is we are too sterile. we are not exposed to enough germs there for weakening our immune defenses. i grew up in the south and people would cook a big dinner (lunch) and leave it on the stove covered with a table cloth and finish it off at supper. there was no air conditioning either. i don't recall anyone ever getting sick. i might add southerners used a lot of lard (grease) in their cooking. to this day i don't use band-aids, neosporin, or other antibiotics. i also think anti-bacterial soap kills off beneficial bacteria in body areas where they are needed. such as the ears, nose, arm pits, genital regions, anal area and feet.

No, I dont think so but if you want people to see you as very rude person then dont make any handshakes. Just be conscious that you should wash your hands before you put anything in your mouth.

I hate doing the hand shaking thing (or worse the hugging and kissing thing) only to have that person tell me "oh, by the way I'm coming down with something," Gee, thanks!

I'd be in favor of adopting the Japanese bow greeting instead.
