It seems like so many fantasy owners read all the same books and look at all the same material and have all the same ideas...granted, some good ideas are ok...but some seem crazy to me...

a few examples:

1.worrying about bye weeks... I've seen people pass on better players because they have the same bye week as another guy on their team... I figure if you have the best players available...and you actually can evaluate tallent... then worst case senario is that you drop ONE week based on having a couple of guys on "bye"... I've never seen a fantasy season lost on bye weeks?

2. all the same "hype players"... last year it was Ashley Leelie... he only had an average year before that and then everyone was talking about how he was going to have a "great year"... then it was a dud...
then you have these guys that have a bunch of "hype" players thinking they will be fantastic this year... then they suck and they are like "what happened"?

some others... having two defenses... or two kickers... it seems rediculous when you will probably be able to pick up a decent one in the bye week and you're waisting that spot on a defense or kicker...
I've seen VERY FEW examples where a kicker or defense makes a huge difference on the year, espescially to the point of taking two...

I repeatedly comment on many of the topics you bring up when asked to "rate" a fantasy team.

1. I constantly see responses attacking a team because they have 2 RB or 2 WR on the same bye week. BIG F'N DEAL! If I can get LT and Lamont Jordan on the same team I don't give a crap if they have the same bye week. I'll be that much stronger the other 13 weeks. So someone gets lucky by playing me this week. Take the best player that you need, and ignore the bye week.

2. Unless your league has no pick-ups at all (in which case your roster size would be much larger) don't draft a backup kicker or defense. I don't even like to draft a backup TE unless there's one calling my name in the final round. They are taking up valuable space on your roster when you could be adding depth at WR and RB. Also don't draft more than 2 QB's.

3. Rookies tend to get over-hyped. Reggie Bush is a classic example this year. Unless your in a keeper league, I wouldn't touch him before round 5. Until you hear that a rookie has the starting job, let someone else blow an early round pick on him.

4. Don't draft Gates (or any TE) in the first 5 rounds. I always wait much longer than that. Gates is an impact player, but he always goes in the 3rd round. This will screw up your draft I promise you. Either your RB, WR, or both will suffer if you sacrifice a 3rd round pick on Gates.

Definately seen games and seasons lost because managers didn't look out for their bye weeks. You really have to weigh the talent on whether to cover the bye or take the best player available. Also you have to consider points in leagues also if records are tied. I always try to get the most points possible every week. If you don't cover your byes properly and just pick up a free agent off the wire you could lose a playoff spot by a couple of points.

Seen kickers win weeks for teams before. They don't seem important till you lose by 1 or 2 points.

You have "hype players" every year. If you root for a certain team then the hype means more if you don't then take it for what it is...hype. I know guys that won't draft certain players cause the madden curse. But really who is gonna pass up Alexander this year if you have the #4 and up pick. Worry more about sleepers than the hype players. If a hype player works out then everyone will say they knew it but you pull a great sleeper in the later rounds you look like a genious.

I have seen were a bye week effected the out come of a league. hype players? well you just cant fall for the talk. last year I had 2 defenses..the reason was that they were both top 10. I kept someone from getting one of them. I also carried 3 QB's for the same reason. "hype players" like TO last year- it happens

It's hard to pick the hype guy this year, since there always are sleepers that pop up like Willie Parker. Bye's aren't as big as they used to be. There over before most fantasy playoffs begin.
