in your volume controls, click on the Advanced button for your master volume. make sure Digital Output Only is not checked. I checked that once and the same thing happened on my desktop PC.

You may have a program that handles your sound card settings. If so, you may have the option of hearing your sound through speakers or headphones. I suspect that this may be the case and your settings are for headphones, therefore the deminished sound volume.
Good luck.

did you happen to check all of your volume controls?..place your mouse over the icon of volume in your system tray and click twice, this will bring up the entire volume setting of the computer. Make sure you have all of the levers pulled up.

Try restarting your laptop, plug headphones into it. And if that doesn't work, try contacting the company that built your laptop to ask them about it and if they can fix it.
