What do you mean by evil? The duality of good and evil is mainly a Zoroastrian thing. it is more common in various world religions to have gods with complex personalities who are capable of acts of good and evil.

Shiva is given as an example, since He was resposnible for ending life- but He was also partially responsible for creating it. Kali is given as an example, and it is hard to argue, but again, She could be gentle and loving as well as destructive.

Sekhmet is an ancient Egyptian goddess often given as an example of a destructive goddess. She did go into a blood frenzy that threatened the existence of humanity once. She also is very protective and guards against disease, however.

Many North American Native traditions regard Coyote as almost a devil figure- but even though He could be very destructive with his tricks, some have it that He helped to shape the world.

You get the idea? It is best when looking at polytheistic religions to forget about good and evil, and think instead of complex personalities and concepts.

Evil is in the eye of the believer. Many of the gods and goddesses have had an attitude or had a hand in destruction, but the Christian god has destroyed what he didn't like, also. Kali of India saved the world be killing the demons destroying it, though she had to have someone get her under control from getting too into it. Most of the so called evil gods had two sides to them and what they did at the time had varied effects. Aries was the god of war,so what do you expect?
Granted, some I don't care for, and a few would be considered evil, but be careful not to put all you don't believe in in this catagory just because.

The Devil is a Christian concept. The Gods of most Pagan religions aren't considered Good nor Evil.

Yes, Easter, Halloween, and even Christmas were taken from pagan backgrounds. Christmas was Yule, and Christians just slapped with a more "Christian" name and said it was their own. Easter is Eostre. Thats why you dye eggs-because Eostre is a time for fertility and the egg was thought to be a symbol for Eostre, the fertility goddess. Halloween is Samhain(pronounced sow-en). On it pagans remember the dead and celebrate the cycle of reincarnation. But everything depends on what you believe. If you believe in the whole "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" thing, then you are probably a Fundamentalist and should hate all holidays with pagan backgrounds. But he's got a right to hate whatever he wants. Does that answer you're question?

Pagan is a heathen contrasted with Christian and Jew and Mus-
lim formerly it is used for person who is not christian, jew and muslim.Christian usually calls pagan to the non christian.Pagan is meant also a person who has no religion.Pagan is meant also as not religious heathen.Pagan and heathen are used for polytheistic peoples and pagan are often used for ancient peoples especially the Greek and Romans and primitive idolaters
Pagan's god are evil such as all kind of stone statues, wooden dolls, big trees, sun, moon, big stones, king Fir'aun, Buddha Gautama statue etc. They pray and ask something to illogical gods. They prayed and gave some foods,fruits,cigatrs,coin,anim-
als and drinks, flowers etc to their gods.Their gods in fact can not help them anything and can not eat, smoke and drink everything given to the gods.Their offers are useless and an illogical acts.
In islamic teaching, paganism acts are a great sin which can not be forgiven by our God Almighty.

A lot of pagan religions don't have "devil gods." There are some gods who are friendly to mankind, and some who aren't, and some who are actively hostile to most (or even all) people, but they're not considered "devils," just gods whose interests don't include taking care of humans.

"Evil" is a relative term; every society has defined it a bit differently. But the notion of a single deity who embodies all the "bad things" possible, who encourages harm for the sake of harm, is very rare; most religions don't believe that evil needs a sentient force to create it.

I am just breathless reading the "answer" above by WhynotaskDon? Wow! I have not seen a rant that slams so many religions at once ever!

I was going to put in some things about Rakshasas, Onis, and all, but Don just blew my mind. Even took on the Blessed Virgin! Wow.

I would say this friend has a very closed mind. Even if I didn't believe in that goddess, someone promoting fertility isn't bad in my book. Being ignorant and stubborn can close a persons mind. Although getting the crap smacked out of him would be satisfying, I doubt it would change his beliefs. I personally try to stay out of smacking distance from those kinds of people. In fact, I rarely let those kinds of people become friends with me.
