Going to a clothing large clothing store or a place like Chuck-e-cheese's is an easy way to fake working there. Just put on a shirt that looks like the other employee's shirt and act like you know your way around the store. People will think you work there. I have done this unintentionally and people always ask me for help.

I'm just going to throw some random things out there and maybe you can use them or maybe they will help get you thinking. Car Salesman, Grocery Store Manager, Hair Stylist, Clothing Salesman, Massage Therapist, Baker/Chef, Garbage Collector, Pool Cleaner or Newspaper Delivery. That is a tough one, I just spent about ten minutes trying to think of discrete jobs that are easy to play off and that was alot harder than I thought it would be. Hope this helps.

For your novel, easy jobs to fake are:
student
escort
paper route
author / contract writer / ghost writer
unemployed - looking for work
Security guard - night shift
Baker at a doughnut shop
To give your fictional character some advice: Instead of faking to have a job he or she should go to school and study what he or she wants to become.

You need to find a job that noone else knows about. You really have to think outside of the box on this one. If noone knows anything about your job then noone can ask you a question about it right? I have several ideas but it is up to you to write about them. You will have to do a little studying but nothing crazy. How about Orthondotics salesperson to Canadian doctors. It is a real job, my friend does it.

Are you really a spy? If so, I'm pretty sure they have people that work with you to make up a job and a personna for you. If not, say you run computer databases. Most people hardly know what that means.

probably a receptionist at any kind of office, like a destist office, theres not too much technical terminology you would have to know about it, just the basics like filing answering phones sceduling and scheduling appointments. even a file clerk would be easy, they just file paperwork and floders all day.
hope that helps.

Counselor. Seems pretty self explanatory and yet professional. Not many questions would be asked and if they were it would be fairly easy to answer questions if they were asked.
