I may be related to William Wallace, of "Braveheart" fame, on my mother's side. The family has been traced to Scotland as far back as about 1600s. It would be an indirect relationship, though, because I don't believe WW had any (legitimate) offspring.

The then king of Denmark and Norway, Christian IV, had a reputation as a ladies' man, and he is said to have liked the Norwegian ladies especially well. Several had children by him, and he always paid them some money for the child's upkeep, which was more than most authority figures of the day bothered with. An ancestress of mine, on my mother's side, is supposed to have been one of these children. So if I have any royal blood, it's been seriously diluted by now, and I don't think Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark sees me as a pretender to the throne, lol.

Quite a lot of people can trace their ancestry back to somebody royal. The math involved just makes sure of that!
Each human being has:
2 parents
4 grandparents
8 great-grands
16 GG
32 GGG
64 GGGG
128 GGGGG

That alone is about 300 years worth of ancestry, give or take a little!

My grandmother traced our family tree, and found a link to the royal house of Stuart (Scotland) and Charlemange (Emperor of Europe).

My family was supposedly traced back to William the Conqueror. How can you go that far back? I know we have some serious genealogists in the family, but heck, that's 1000 years!

I know we did have a descendant on the Mayflower. I suppose that isn't royalty, but there's my connection to the good ole USA.
