The Core Duo is pretty similar to the Pentium M (Centrino) in terms of architecture. The Core Duo is basically an improved Centrino with two CPU cores on one die.

Dual-core CPUs give you better ability to multitask. Even if the app you're using can't take advantage of two CPUs on its own, it will still benefit when another app running at the same time can use the other CPU core.

Even setting aside the dual-cores for a second, the Core Duo CPU architecture is more advanced than the Pentium M.

Duo means that two processing cores are integrated within a single chip. This is distinct from two independent processors connected on a single board, due to sharing of memory cache in the first case.

Duo is faster for programs that are multi-threaded and for Operating systems that do multi-processing (which is true for almost all modern OSs). However programs which are not multi-threading/multi-processing will not be able to take advantage of the dual processing power and hence it's performance would be comparable to a single-core processor.

But the point to note, is that because it is dual core, the programs do not immediately show an double increase in speed. This is because of communication overheads b/w the two cores.

The dual-core processor helps alot if you got alot of high priority threads running. The speed also comes from the Fornt Side Bus which generally around 2000Mhz. It all depends on what you want, and how much money your willing to spend.

the duo should be faster unless you did something and slowed it down

who knows.. they trick you into buying the cheaper processor... that you think is good. or soemething
