I don't think it's all that many people, really, especially as a percentage of the total users of this site. But it is an open community, and the trolls come in because they can spread their -- ahem -- dirt around. They get violated, eventually get kicked off and, I am afraid, make up a new nickname and come back, some of them. The only thing to do is report abuse and move on. Don't give them the satisfaction of answering them, especially not with moral outrage, which is what they are looking for. They want to laugh at anyone who has moral values, who considers people to be human beings to be treated with good manners, etc. They are, to be blunt, less intelligent and less pleasant than normal folk, which is why I call them trolls.
If you have any suggestions on how to eliminate them without getting rid of good people, please present them. Put a question in the category Yahoo! Products -> Yahoo! Answers of the form "Why don't we do this to eliminate the trolls?"

Studies have shown that intellectual people being "hatin'" when confronted with the sight of their native language being abused by obnoxious children and adults that should know better.

Because they hide behind their avatars. They are too chicken to actually say the things they say face to face. Yahoo answers shows us how there is still a lot of hate in this world. It is sad and just plain tacky. I highly believe in Karma and it will all come back on them.

It is easy to hate here. They can't be seen or confronted, so like the cowards they are, they come here to play their nasty, hateful little kiddie games. Most of the ones who ask hate-inspired questions are such cowards, they decline to be emailed, even when its through anonymous means. Maybe one day they will grow up and learn to play nice. Doubtful, but it could happen.
We have to hold out hope for them.

Because they're lazy! I mean lets face it, it's easier to be judgmental and hate then it is to take the time and talk to someone and see what they're really like.
